अच्छा वद तवसं गीर्भिराभिः स्तुहि पर्जन्यं नमसा विवास। कनिक्रदद्वृषभो जीरदानू रेतो दधात्योषधीषु गर्भम्॥

Transliteration

acchā vada tavasaṁ gīrbhirābhiḥ stuhi parjanyaṁ namasā vivāsa | kanikradadvṛṣabho jīradānū reto dadhātyoṣadhīṣu garbham ||

Translation

SING with these songs thy welcome to the Mighty, with adoration praise and call Parjanya. The Bull, loud roaring, swift to send his bounty, lays in the plants the seed. for germination.

वि वृक्षान्हन्त्युत हन्ति रक्षसो विश्वं बिभाय भुवनं महावधात्। उतानागा ईषते वृष्ण्यावतो यत्पर्जन्यः स्तनयन्हन्ति दुष्कृतः॥

Transliteration

vi vṛkṣānhantyuta hanti rakṣaso viśvaṁ bibhāya bhuvanaṁ mahāvadhāt | utānāgā īṣate vṛṣṇyāvato yatparjanyaḥ stanayanhanti duṣkṛtaḥ ||

Translation

He smites the trees apart, he slays the demons: all life fears him who wields the mighty weapon. From him exceeding strong fices e'en the guiltless, when thundering Parjanya smites the wicked.

रथीव कशयाश्वाँ अभिक्षिपन्नाविर्दूतान्कृणुते वर्ष्याँ अह। दूरात्सिंहस्य स्तनथा उदीरते यत्पर्जन्यः कृणुते वर्ष्यं नभः॥

Transliteration

rathīva kaśayāśvā abhikṣipannāvirdūtānkṛṇute varṣyā aha | dūrātsiṁhasya stanathā udīrate yatparjanyaḥ kṛṇute varṣyaṁ nabhaḥ ||

Translation

Like a car-driver whipping on his horses, he makes the messengers of rain spring forward. Far off resounds the roaring of the lion, what time Parjanya fills the sky with rain-cloud.

प्र वाता वान्ति पतयन्ति विद्युत उदोषधीर्जिहते पिन्वते स्वः। इरा विश्वस्मै भुवनाय जायते यत्पर्जन्यः पृथिवीं रेतसावति॥

Transliteration

pra vātā vānti patayanti vidyuta udoṣadhīrjihate pinvate svaḥ | irā viśvasmai bhuvanāya jāyate yatparjanyaḥ pṛthivīṁ retasāvati ||

Translation

Forth burst the winds, down come the lightning-flashes: the plants shoot up, the realm of light is streaming. Food springs abundant for all living creatures, what time Parjanya quickens earth with moisture.

यस्य व्रते पृथिवी नन्नमीति यस्य व्रते शफवज्जर्भुरीति। यस्य व्रत ओषधीर्विश्वरूपाः स नः पर्जन्य महि शर्म यच्छ॥

Transliteration

yasya vrate pṛthivī nannamīti yasya vrate śaphavajjarbhurīti | yasya vrata oṣadhīrviśvarūpāḥ sa naḥ parjanya mahi śarma yaccha ||

Translation

Thou at whose bidding earth bows low before thee, at whose command hoofed cattle fly in terror, At whose behest the plants assume all colours, even thou Parjanya, yield us great protection.

दिवो नो वृष्टिं मरुतो ररीध्वं प्र पिन्वत वृष्णो अश्वस्य धाराः। अर्वाङेतेन स्तनयित्नुनेह्यपो निषिञ्चन्नसुरः पिता नः॥

Transliteration

divo no vṛṣṭiṁ maruto rarīdhvaṁ pra pinvata vṛṣṇo aśvasya dhārāḥ | arvāṅetena stanayitnunehyapo niṣiñcannasuraḥ pitā naḥ ||

Translation

Send down for us the rain of heaven, ye Maruts, and let the Stallion's flood descend in torrents. Come hither with this thunder while thou pourest the waters down, our heavenly Lord and Father.

अभि क्रन्द स्तनय गर्भमा धा उदन्वता परि दीया रथेन। दृतिं सु कर्ष विषितं न्यञ्चं समा भवन्तूद्वतो निपादाः॥

Transliteration

abhi kranda stanaya garbhamā dhā udanvatā pari dīyā rathena | dṛtiṁ su karṣa viṣitaṁ nyañcaṁ samā bhavantūdvato nipādāḥ ||

Translation

Thunder and roar: the germ of life deposit. Fly round us on thy chariot waterladen. Thine opened water-skin draw with thee downward, and let the hollows and the heights be level.

महान्तं कोशमुदचा नि षिञ्च स्यन्दन्तां कुल्या विषिताः पुरस्तात्। घृतेन द्यावापृथिवी व्युन्धि सुप्रपाणं भवत्वघ्न्याभ्यः॥

Transliteration

mahāntaṁ kośamudacā ni ṣiñca syandantāṁ kulyā viṣitāḥ purastāt | ghṛtena dyāvāpṛthivī vyundhi suprapāṇaṁ bhavatvaghnyābhyaḥ ||

Translation

Lift up the mighty vessel, pour down water, and let the liberated streams rush forward. Saturate both the earth and heaven with fatness, and for the cows let there be drink abundant.

Transliteration

yatparjanya kanikradatstanayanhaṁsi duṣkṛtaḥ | pratīdaṁ viśvaṁ modate yatkiṁ ca pṛthivyāmadhi ||

Translation

When thou, with thunder and with roar, Parjanya, smitest sinners down, This universe exults thereat, yea, all that is upon the earth.

अवर्षीर्वर्षमुदु षू गृभायाकर्धन्वान्यत्येतवा उ। अजीजन ओषधीर्भोजनाय कमुत प्रजाभ्योऽविदो मनीषाम्॥

Transliteration

avarṣīrvarṣamudu ṣū gṛbhāyākardhanvānyatyetavā u | ajījana oṣadhīrbhojanāya kamuta prajābhyo'vido manīṣām ||

Translation

Thou hast poured down the rain-flood now withhold it. Thou hast made desert places fit for travel. Thou hast made herbs to grow for our enjoyment: yea, thou hast won thee praise from living creatures.
