आ धेनवः पयसा तूर्ण्यर्था अमर्धन्तीरुप नो यन्तु मध्वा। महो राये बृहतीः सप्त विप्रो मयोभुवो जरिता जोहवीति॥

Transliteration

ā dhenavaḥ payasā tūrṇyarthā amardhantīrupa no yantu madhvā | maho rāye bṛhatīḥ sapta vipro mayobhuvo jaritā johavīti ||

Translation

MAY the Milch-cows who hasten to their object come harmless unto us with liquid sweetness. The Singer, lauding, calls, for ample riches, the Seven Mighty Ones who bring enjoyment.

आ सुष्टुती नमसा वर्तयध्यै द्यावा वाजाय पृथिवी अमृध्रे। पिता माता मधुवचाः सुहस्ता भरेभरे नो यशसावविष्टाम्॥

Transliteration

ā suṣṭutī namasā vartayadhyai dyāvā vājāya pṛthivī amṛdhre | pitā mātā madhuvacāḥ suhastā bharebhare no yaśasāvaviṣṭām ||

Translation

With reverence and fair praise will I bring hither, for sake of strength, exhaustless Earth and Heaven. Father and Mother, sweetof speech, fairhanded, may they, far-famed, in every fight protect us.

अध्वर्यवश्चकृवांसो मधूनि प्र वायवे भरत चारु शुक्रम्। होतेव नः प्रथमः पाह्यस्य देव मध्वो ररिमा ते मदाय॥

Transliteration

adhvaryavaścakṛvāṁso madhūni pra vāyave bharata cāru śukram | hoteva naḥ prathamaḥ pāhyasya deva madhvo rarimā te madāya ||

Translation

Adhvaryus, make the sweet libations ready, and bring the beautiful bright juice to Vayu. God, as our Priest, be thou the first to drink it: we give thee of the mead to make thee joyful.

दश क्षिपो युञ्जते बाहू अद्रिं सोमस्य या शमितारा सुहस्ता। मध्वो रसं सुगभस्तिर्गिरिष्ठां चनिश्चदद्दुदुहे शुक्रमंशुः॥

Transliteration

daśa kṣipo yuñjate bāhū adriṁ somasya yā śamitārā suhastā | madhvo rasaṁ sugabhastirgiriṣṭhāṁ caniścadadduduhe śukramaṁśuḥ ||

Translation

Two arms-the Soma's dexterous immo. lators-and the ten fingers set and fix the press-stone. The stalk hath poured, fair with its spreading branches, the mead's bright glittering juice that dwells on mountains.

असावि ते जुजुषाणाय सोमः क्रत्वे दक्षाय बृहते मदाय। हरी रथे सुधुरा योगे अर्वागिन्द्र प्रिया कृणुहि हूयमानः॥

Transliteration

asāvi te jujuṣāṇāya somaḥ kratve dakṣāya bṛhate madāya | harī rathe sudhurā yoge arvāgindra priyā kṛṇuhi hūyamānaḥ ||

Translation

The Soma hath been pressed for thee, its lover, to give thee power and might and high enjoyment. Invoked, turn hither in thy car, O Indra, at need, thy two well-trained and dear Bay Horses.

आ नो महीमरमतिं सजोषा ग्नां देवीं नमसा रातहव्याम्। मधोर्मदाय बृहतीमृतज्ञामाग्ने वह पथिभिर्देवयानैः॥

Transliteration

ā no mahīmaramatiṁ sajoṣā gnāṁ devīṁ namasā rātahavyām | madhormadāya bṛhatīmṛtajñāmāgne vaha pathibhirdevayānaiḥ ||

Translation

Bring by God-traversed paths, accordant, Agni, the great Aramati, Celestial Lady, Exalted, worshipped with our gifts and homage, who knoweth holy Law, to drink sweet Soma.

अञ्जन्ति यं प्रथयन्तो न विप्रा वपावन्तं नाग्निना तपन्तः। पितुर्न पुत्र उपसि प्रेष्ठ आ घर्मो अग्निमृतयन्नसादि॥

Transliteration

añjanti yaṁ prathayanto na viprā vapāvantaṁ nāgninā tapantaḥ | piturna putra upasi preṣṭha ā gharmo agnimṛtayannasādi ||

Translation

As on his father's lap the son, the darling, so on the fire is set the sacred caldron, Which holy singers deck, as if extending and heating that which holds the fatty membrane.

Transliteration

acchā mahī bṛhatī śaṁtamā gīrdūto na gantvaśvinā huvadhyai | mayobhuvā sarathā yātamarvāggantaṁ nidhiṁ dhuramāṇirna nābhim ||

Translation

Hither, as herald to invite the Asvins, come the great lofty song, most sweet and pleasant! Come in one car, joy-givers! to the banquet, like the bolt binding pole and nave, come hither.

प्र तव्यसो नम‍उक्तिं तुरस्याहं पूष्ण उत वायोरदिक्षि। या राधसा चोदितारा मतीनां या वाजस्य द्रविणोदा उत त्मन्॥

Transliteration

pra tavyaso namauktiṁ turasyāhaṁ pūṣṇa uta vāyoradikṣi | yā rādhasā coditārā matīnāṁ yā vājasya draviṇodā uta tman ||

Translation

I have declared this speech of adoration to mightiest Pusan and victorious Vayu, Who by their bounty are the hymns' inspirers, and of themselves give power as a possession.

आ नामभिर्मरुतो वक्षि विश्वाना रूपेभिर्जातवेदो हुवानः। यज्ञं गिरो जरितुः सुष्टुतिं च विश्वे गन्त मरुतो विश्व ऊती॥

Transliteration

ā nāmabhirmaruto vakṣi viśvānā rūpebhirjātavedo huvānaḥ | yajñaṁ giro jarituḥ suṣṭutiṁ ca viśve ganta maruto viśva ūtī ||

Translation

Invoked by us bring hither, jatavedas the Maruts all under their names and figures. Come to the sacrifice with aid all Maruts, all to the songs and praises of the singer!

आ नो दिवो बृहतः पर्वतादा सरस्वती यजता गन्तु यज्ञम्। हवं देवी जुजुषाणा घृताची शग्मां नो वाचमुशती शृणोतु॥

Transliteration

ā no divo bṛhataḥ parvatādā sarasvatī yajatā gantu yajñam | havaṁ devī jujuṣāṇā ghṛtācī śagmāṁ no vācamuśatī śṛṇotu ||

Translation

From high heaven may Sarasvati the Holy visit our sacrifice, and from the mountain. Eager, propitious, may the balmy Goddess hear our effectual speech, our invocation.

आ वेधसं नीलपृष्ठं बृहन्तं बृहस्पतिं सदने सादयध्वम्। सादद्योनिं दम आ दीदिवांसं हिरण्यवर्णमरुषं सपेम॥

Transliteration

ā vedhasaṁ nīlapṛṣṭhaṁ bṛhantaṁ bṛhaspatiṁ sadane sādayadhvam | sādadyoniṁ dama ā dīdivāṁsaṁ hiraṇyavarṇamaruṣaṁ sapema ||

Translation

Set in his seat the God whose back is dusky, Brhaspati the lofty, the Disposer. Him let us worship, set within the dwelling, the red, the golden-hued, the allresplendent.

Transliteration

ā dharṇasirbṛhaddivo rarāṇo viśvebhirgantvomabhirhuvānaḥ | gnā vasāna oṣadhīramṛdhrastridhātuśṛṅgo vṛṣabho vayodhāḥ ||

Translation

May the Sustainer, high in heaven, come hither, the Bounteous One, invoked, with all his favours, Dweller with Dames divine, with plants, unwearied, the Steer with triple horn, the life-bestower.

मातुष्पदे परमे शुक्र आयोर्विपन्यवो रास्पिरासो अग्मन्। सुशेव्यं नमसा रातहव्याः शिशुं मृजन्त्यायवो न वासे॥

Transliteration

mātuṣpade parame śukra āyorvipanyavo rāspirāso agman | suśevyaṁ namasā rātahavyāḥ śiśuṁ mṛjantyāyavo na vāse ||

Translation

The tuneful eloquent priests of him who liveth have sought the Mother's bright and loftiest station. As living men, with offered gifts and homage they deck the most auspicious Child to clothe him.

बृहद्वयो बृहते तुभ्यमग्ने धियाजुरो मिथुनासः सचन्त। देवोदेवः सुहवो भूतु मह्यं मा नो माता पृथिवी दुर्मतौ धात्॥

Transliteration

bṛhadvayo bṛhate tubhyamagne dhiyājuro mithunāsaḥ sacanta | devodevaḥ suhavo bhūtu mahyaṁ mā no mātā pṛthivī durmatau dhāt ||

Translation

Agni, great vital power is thine, the mighty: pairs waxing old in their devotion seek thee. May every Deity be swift to listen, and Mother Earth with no ill thought regard me.

Transliteration

samaśvinoravasā nūtanena mayobhuvā supraṇītī gamema | ā no rayiṁ vahatamota vīrānā viśvānyamṛtā saubhagāni ||

Translation

May we obtain the Asvins' newest favour, and gain their health-bestowing happy guidance. Bring riches hither unto us, and heroes, and all felicity and joy, Immortals!
