Sukta 15

अग्निर्होता नो अध्वरे वाजी सन्परि णीयते। देवो देवेषु यज्ञियः॥

agnirhotā no adhvare vājī sanpari ṇīyate | devo deveṣu yajñiyaḥ ||

AGNI the Herald, like a horse, is led forth at our solemn rite, God among Gods adorable.

परि त्रिविष्ट्यध्वरं यात्यग्नी रथीरिव। आ देवेषु प्रयो दधत्॥

pari triviṣṭyadhvaraṁ yātyagnī rathīriva | ā deveṣu prayo dadhat ||

Three times unto our solemn rite comes Agni like a charioteer, Bearing the viands to the Gods.

परि वाजपतिः कविरग्निर्हव्यान्यक्रमीत्। दधद्रत्नानि दाशुषे॥

pari vājapatiḥ kaviragnirhavyānyakramīt | dadhadratnāni dāśuṣe ||

Round the oblations hath he paced, Agni the Wise, the Lord of Strength, Giving the offerer precious boons.

अयं यः सृञ्जये पुरो दैववाते समिध्यते। द्युमाँ अमित्रदम्भनः॥

ayaṁ yaḥ sṛñjaye puro daivavāte samidhyate | dyumā amitradambhanaḥ ||

He who is kindled eastward for Srnjaya, Devavata's son, Resplendent, tamer of the foe.

अस्य घा वीर ईवतोऽग्नेरीशीत मर्त्यः। तिग्मजम्भस्य मीळ्हुषः॥

asya ghā vīra īvato'gnerīśīta martyaḥ | tigmajambhasya mīḻhuṣaḥ ||

So mighty be the Agni whom the mortal hero shall command, With sharpened teeth and bountiful.

तमर्वन्तं न सानसिमरुषं न दिवः शिशुम्। मर्मृज्यन्ते दिवेदिवे॥

tamarvantaṁ na sānasimaruṣaṁ na divaḥ śiśum | marmṛjyante divedive ||

Day after day they dress him, as they clean a horse who wins the prize. Dress the red Scion of the Sky.

बोधद्यन्मा हरिभ्यां कुमारः साहदेव्यः। अच्छा न हूत उदरम्॥

bodhadyanmā haribhyāṁ kumāraḥ sāhadevyaḥ | acchā na hūta udaram ||

When Sahadeva's princely son with two bay horses thought of me, Summoned by him I drew not back.

उत त्या यजता हरी कुमारात्साहदेव्यात्। प्रयता सद्य आ ददे॥

uta tyā yajatā harī kumārātsāhadevyāt | prayatā sadya ā dade ||

And truly those two noble bays I straightway took when offered me, From Sahadeva's princely son.

एष वां देवावश्विना कुमारः साहदेव्यः। दीर्घायुरस्तु सोमकः॥

eṣa vāṁ devāvaśvinā kumāraḥ sāhadevyaḥ | dīrghāyurastu somakaḥ ||

Long, O ye Asvins, may he live, your care, ye Gods, the princely son. Of Sahadeva, Somaka.

तं युवं देवावश्विना कुमारं साहदेव्यम्। दीर्घायुषं कृणोतन॥

taṁ yuvaṁ devāvaśvinā kumāraṁ sāhadevyam | dīrghāyuṣaṁ kṛṇotana ||

Cause him the youthful prince, the son of Sahadeva, to enjoy Long life, O Asvins, O ye Gods.
