प्रत्यग्निरुषसो जातवेदा अख्यद्देवो रोचमाना महोभिः। आ नासत्योरुगाया रथेनेमं यज्ञमुप नो यातमच्छ॥

Transliteration

pratyagniruṣaso jātavedā akhyaddevo rocamānā mahobhiḥ | ā nāsatyorugāyā rathenemaṁ yajñamupa no yātamaccha ||

Translation

THE God hath looked, even Agni Jatavedas, to meet the Dawns refulgent in their glories. Come on your chariot, ye who travel widely, come to this sacrifice of ours, Nasatyas.

ऊर्ध्वं केतुं सविता देवो अश्रेज्ज्योतिर्विश्वस्मै भुवनाय कृण्वन्। आप्रा द्यावापृथिवी अन्तरिक्षं वि सूर्यो रश्मिभिश्चेकितानः॥

Transliteration

ūrdhvaṁ ketuṁ savitā devo aśrejjyotirviśvasmai bhuvanāya kṛṇvan | āprā dyāvāpṛthivī antarikṣaṁ vi sūryo raśmibhiścekitānaḥ ||

Translation

Producing light for all the world of creatures, God Savitar hath raised aloft his banner. Making his presence known by sunbeams, Surya hath filled the firmament and earth and heaven.

आवहन्त्यरुणीर्ज्योतिषागान्मही चित्रा रश्मिभिश्चेकिताना। प्रबोधयन्ती सुविताय देव्युषा ईयते सुयुजा रथेन॥

Transliteration

āvahantyaruṇīrjyotiṣāgānmahī citrā raśmibhiścekitānā | prabodhayantī suvitāya devyuṣā īyate suyujā rathena ||

Translation

Red Dawn.is come, riding with brightness onward, distinguished by her beams, gay-hued and mighty. Dawn on her nobly-harnessed car, the Goddess, awaking men to happiness, approacheth.

आ वां वहिष्ठा इह ते वहन्तु रथा अश्वास उषसो व्युष्टौ। इमे हि वां मधुपेयाय सोमा अस्मिन्यज्ञे वृषणा मादयेथाम्॥

Transliteration

ā vāṁ vahiṣṭhā iha te vahantu rathā aśvāsa uṣaso vyuṣṭau | ime hi vāṁ madhupeyāya somā asminyajñe vṛṣaṇā mādayethām ||

Translation

May those most powerful steeds and chariot bring you, O Asvins, hither at the break of morning. Here for your drauglit of meath are Soma juices: at this our sacrifice rejoice, ye Mighty.

अनायतो अनिबद्धः कथायं न्यङ्ङुत्तानोऽव पद्यते न। कया याति स्वधया को ददर्श दिवः स्कम्भः समृतः पाति नाकम्॥

Transliteration

anāyato anibaddhaḥ kathāyaṁ nyaṅṅuttāno'va padyate na | kayā yāti svadhayā ko dadarśa divaḥ skambhaḥ samṛtaḥ pāti nākam ||

Translation

How is it that, unbound and unsupported, he falleth not although directed downward? By what self-power moves he? Who hath seen it? He guards the vault of heaven, a close-set pillar?
