हिरण्यकेशो रजसो विसारेऽहिर्धुनिर्वात इव ध्रजीमान्। शुचिभ्राजा उषसो नवेदा यशस्वतीरपस्युवो न सत्याः॥

Transliteration

hiraṇyakeśo rajaso visāre'hirdhunirvāta iva dhrajīmān | śucibhrājā uṣaso navedā yaśasvatīrapasyuvo na satyāḥ ||

Translation

HE in mid-air's expanse hath golden tresses; a raging serpent, like the rushing tempest: Purely refulgent, knowing well the morn. ing; like honourable dames, true, active workers.

आ ते सुपर्णा अमिनन्तँ एवैः कृष्णो नोनाव वृषभो यदीदम्। शिवाभिर्न स्मयमानाभिरागात्पतन्ति मिहः स्तनयन्त्यभ्रा॥

Transliteration

ā te suparṇā aminanta evaiḥ kṛṣṇo nonāva vṛṣabho yadīdam | śivābhirna smayamānābhirāgātpatanti mihaḥ stanayantyabhrā ||

Translation

Thy well-winged flashes strengthen in their manner, when the black Bull hath bellowed round about us. With drops that bless and seem to smile he cometh: the waters fall, the clouds utter their thunder.

यदीमृतस्य पयसा पियानो नयन्नृतस्य पथिभी रजिष्ठैः। अर्यमा मित्रो वरुणः परिज्मा त्वचं पृञ्चन्त्युपरस्य योनौ॥

Transliteration

yadīmṛtasya payasā piyāno nayannṛtasya pathibhī rajiṣṭhaiḥ | aryamā mitro varuṇaḥ parijmā tvacaṁ pṛñcantyuparasya yonau ||

Translation

When he comes streaming with the milk of worship, conducting by directest paths of Order Aryaman, Mitra, Varuna, Parijman fill the hide full where lies the nether press-stone.

अग्ने वाजस्य गोमत ईशानः सहसो यहो। अस्मे धेहि जातवेदो महि श्रवः॥

Transliteration

agne vājasya gomata īśānaḥ sahaso yaho | asme dhehi jātavedo mahi śravaḥ ||

Translation

O Agni, thou who art the lord of wealth in kine, thou Son of Strength, Vouchsafe to us, O Jatavetlas, high renown.

स इधानो वसुष्कविरग्निरीळेन्यो गिरा। रेवदस्मभ्यं पुर्वणीक दीदिहि॥

Transliteration

sa idhāno vasuṣkaviragnirīḻenyo girā | revadasmabhyaṁ purvaṇīka dīdihi ||

Translation

He, Agni, kindled, good and wise, must be exalted in our song: Shine, thou of many forms, shine radiantly on us.

क्षपो राजन्नुत त्मनाग्ने वस्तोरुतोषसः। स तिग्मजम्भ रक्षसो दह प्रति॥

Transliteration

kṣapo rājannuta tmanāgne vastorutoṣasaḥ | sa tigmajambha rakṣaso daha prati ||

Translation

O Agni, shining of thyself by night and when the morning breaks, Burn, thou whose teeth are sharp, against the Raksasas.

Transliteration

avā no agna ūtibhirgāyatrasya prabharmaṇi | viśvāsu dhīṣu vandya ||

Translation

Adorable in all our rites, favour us, Agni, with thine.aid, When the great hymn is chanted forth.

Transliteration

ā no agne rayiṁ bhara satrāsāhaṁ vareṇyam | viśvāsu pṛtsu duṣṭaram ||

Translation

Bring to us ever-conquering wealth, wealth, Agni, worthy of our choice, In all our frays invincible.

Transliteration

ā no agne sucetunā rayiṁ viśvāyupoṣasam | mārḍīkaṁ dhehi jīvase ||

Translation

Give us, O Agni, through thy grace wealth that supporteth all our life, Thy favour so that we may live.

Keen and swift Agni, thousand-eyed, chaseth the Raksasas afar: He singeth, herald meet for lauds.
