सूक्त १४७

श्रत्ते दधामि प्रथमाय मन्यवेऽहन्यद्वृत्रं नर्यं विवेरपः। उभे यत्त्वा भवतो रोदसी अनु रेजते शुष्मात्पृथिवी चिदद्रिवः॥

śratte dadhāmi prathamāya manyave'hanyadvṛtraṁ naryaṁ viverapaḥ | ubhe yattvā bhavato rodasī anu rejate śuṣmātpṛthivī cidadrivaḥ ||

I TRUST in thy first wrathful deed, O Indra, when thou slewest Vrtra and didst work to profit man; What time the two world-halves fell short of thee in might, and the earth trembled at thy force, O Thunder-anned.

त्वं मायाभिरनवद्य मायिनं श्रवस्यता मनसा वृत्रमर्दयः। त्वामिन्नरो वृणते गविष्टिषु त्वां विश्वासु हव्यास्विष्टिषु॥

tvaṁ māyābhiranavadya māyinaṁ śravasyatā manasā vṛtramardayaḥ | tvāminnaro vṛṇate gaviṣṭiṣu tvāṁ viśvāsu havyāsviṣṭiṣu ||

Thou with thy magic powers didst rend the conjurer Vrtra, O Blameless One, with heart that longed for fame. Heroes elect thee when they battle for the prey, thee in all sacrifices worthy of renown.

ऐषु चाकन्धि पुरुहूत सूरिषु वृधासो ये मघवन्नानशुर्मघम्। अर्चन्ति तोके तनये परिष्टिषु मेधसाता वाजिनमह्रये धने॥

aiṣu cākandhi puruhūta sūriṣu vṛdhāso ye maghavannānaśurmagham | arcanti toke tanaye pariṣṭiṣu medhasātā vājinamahraye dhane ||

God Much-invoked, take pleasure in these princes here, who, thine exalters, Maghavan, have come to wealth. In synods, when the rite succeeds, they hymn the Strong for sons and progeny and riches undisturbed.

स इन्नु रायः सुभृतस्य चाकनन्मदं यो अस्य रंह्यं चिकेतति। त्वावृधो मघवन्दाश्वध्वरो मक्षू स वाजं भरते धना नृभिः॥

sa innu rāyaḥ subhṛtasya cākananmadaṁ yo asya raṁhyaṁ ciketati | tvāvṛdho maghavandāśvadhvaro makṣū sa vājaṁ bharate dhanā nṛbhiḥ ||

That man shall find delight in well-protected wealth whose care provides for him the quick-sought joyous draught. Bringing oblations, strengthened Maghavan, by thee, he swiftly wins the spoil with heroes in the fight.

त्वं शर्धाय महिना गृणान उरु कृधि मघवञ्छग्धि रायः। त्वं नो मित्रो वरुणो न मायी पित्वो न दस्म दयसे विभक्ता॥

tvaṁ śardhāya mahinā gṛṇāna uru kṛdhi maghavañchagdhi rāyaḥ | tvaṁ no mitro varuṇo na māyī pitvo na dasma dayase vibhaktā ||

Now for our band, O Maghavan, when lauded, make ample room with might, and grant us riches. Magician thou, our Varuna and Mitra, deal food to us, O Wondrous, as Dispenser.
