सूक्त ७०

इमां मे अग्ने समिधं जुषस्वेळस्पदे प्रति हर्या घृताचीम्। वर्ष्मन्पृथिव्याः सुदिनत्वे अह्नामूर्ध्वो भव सुक्रतो देवयज्या॥

imāṁ me agne samidhaṁ juṣasveḻaspade prati haryā ghṛtācīm | varṣmanpṛthivyāḥ sudinatve ahnāmūrdhvo bhava sukrato devayajyā ||

ENJOY, O Agni, this my Fuel, welcome the oil-filled ladle where we pour libation. Rise up for worship of the Gods, wise Agni, on the earth's height, while days are bright with beauty.

आ देवानामग्रयावेह यातु नराशंसो विश्वरूपेभिरश्वैः। ऋतस्य पथा नमसा मियेधो देवेभ्यो देवतमः सुषूदत्॥

ā devānāmagrayāveha yātu narāśaṁso viśvarūpebhiraśvaiḥ | ṛtasya pathā namasā miyedho devebhyo devatamaḥ suṣūdat ||

May he who goes before the Gods come hither with steeds whose shapes are varied, Narasarhsa. May he, most Godlike, speed our offered viands with homage God-ward on the path of Order.

शश्वत्तममीळते दूत्याय हविष्मन्तो मनुष्यासो अग्निम्। वहिष्ठैरश्वैः सुवृता रथेना देवान्वक्षि नि षदेह होता॥

śaśvattamamīḻate dūtyāya haviṣmanto manuṣyāso agnim | vahiṣṭhairaśvaiḥ suvṛtā rathenā devānvakṣi ni ṣadeha hotā ||

Men with oblations laud most constant Agni, and pray him to perform an envoy's duty. With lightly-rolling car and best draught-horses, bring the Gods hither and sit down as Hotar.

वि प्रथतां देवजुष्टं तिरश्चा दीर्घं द्राघ्मा सुरभि भूत्वस्मे। अहेळता मनसा देव बर्हिरिन्द्रज्येष्ठाँ उशतो यक्षि देवान्॥

vi prathatāṁ devajuṣṭaṁ tiraścā dīrghaṁ drāghmā surabhi bhūtvasme | aheḻatā manasā deva barhirindrajyeṣṭhā uśato yakṣi devān ||

May the delight of Gods spread out transversely: may it be with us long in length and fragrant. O Holy Grass divine, with friendly spirit bring thou the willing Gods whose Chief is Indra.

दिवो वा सानु स्पृशता वरीयः पृथिव्या वा मात्रया वि श्रयध्वम्। उशतीर्द्वारो महिना महद्भिर्देवं रथं रथयुर्धारयध्वम्॥

divo vā sānu spṛśatā varīyaḥ pṛthivyā vā mātrayā vi śrayadhvam | uśatīrdvāro mahinā mahadbhirdevaṁ rathaṁ rathayurdhārayadhvam ||

Touch ye the far-extending height of heaven or spring apart to suit the wide earth's measure. Yearning, ye Doors, with those sublime in greatness, seize eagerly the heavenly Car that cometh.

देवी दिवो दुहितरा सुशिल्पे उषासानक्ता सदतां नि योनौ। आ वां देवास उशती उशन्त उरौ सीदन्तु सुभगे उपस्थे॥

devī divo duhitarā suśilpe uṣāsānaktā sadatāṁ ni yonau | ā vāṁ devāsa uśatī uśanta urau sīdantu subhage upasthe ||

Here in this shrine may Dawn and Night, the Daughters of Heaven, the skilful Goddesses, be seated. In your wide lap, auspicious, willing Ladies may the Gods seat them with a willing spirit.

ऊर्ध्वो ग्रावा बृहदग्निः समिद्धः प्रिया धामान्यदितेरुपस्थे। पुरोहितावृत्विजा यज्ञे अस्मिन्विदुष्टरा द्रविणमा यजेथाम्॥

ūrdhvo grāvā bṛhadagniḥ samiddhaḥ priyā dhāmānyaditerupasthe | purohitāvṛtvijā yajñe asminviduṣṭarā draviṇamā yajethām ||

Up stands the stone, high burns the fire enkindled: Aditi's lap contains the Friendly Natures Ye Two Chief Priests who serve at this our worship, may ye, more skilled, win for us rich possessions.

तिस्रो देवीर्बर्हिरिदं वरीय आ सीदत चकृमा वः स्योनम्। मनुष्वद्यज्ञं सुधिता हवींषीळा देवी घृतपदी जुषन्त॥

tisro devīrbarhiridaṁ varīya ā sīdata cakṛmā vaḥ syonam | manuṣvadyajñaṁ sudhitā havīṁṣīḻā devī ghṛtapadī juṣanta ||

On our wide grass, Three Goddesses be seated: for you have we prepared and made it pleasant. May Ila, she whose foot drops oil, the Goddess, taste, man-like, sacrifice and well-set presents.

देव त्वष्टर्यद्ध चारुत्वमानड्यदङ्गिरसामभवः सचाभूः। स देवानां पाथ उप प्र विद्वाँ उशन्यक्षि द्रविणोदः सुरत्नः॥

deva tvaṣṭaryaddha cārutvamānaḍyadaṅgirasāmabhavaḥ sacābhūḥ | sa devānāṁ pātha upa pra vidvā uśanyakṣi draviṇodaḥ suratnaḥ ||

Since thou, God Tvastar, hast made beauty perfect, since hou hast been the Angirases' Companion, Willing, most wealthy, Giver of possessions, grant us the Gods' assembly, thou who knowest.

वनस्पते रशनया नियूया देवानां पाथ उप वक्षि विद्वान्। स्वदाति देवः कृणवद्धवींष्यवतां द्यावापृथिवी हवं मे॥

vanaspate raśanayā niyūyā devānāṁ pātha upa vakṣi vidvān | svadāti devaḥ kṛṇavaddhavīṁṣyavatāṁ dyāvāpṛthivī havaṁ me ||

Well-knowing, binding with thy cord, bring hither, Lord of the Wood, the Deities' assembly. The God prepare and season our oblations may Heaven and Earth be gracious to my calling.

आग्ने वह वरुणमिष्टये न इन्द्रं दिवो मरुतो अन्तरिक्षात्। सीदन्तु बर्हिर्विश्व आ यजत्राः स्वाहा देवा अमृता मादयन्ताम्॥

āgne vaha varuṇamiṣṭaye na indraṁ divo maruto antarikṣāt | sīdantu barhirviśva ā yajatrāḥ svāhā devā amṛtā mādayantām ||

Agni, bring hither Varuna to help us, Indra from heaven, from air's mid-realm the Maruts. On sacred grass all Holy ones be seated and let the Immortal Gods rejoice in Svaha.
