सूक्त ११५

चित्रं देवानामुदगादनीकं चक्षुर्मित्रस्य वरुणस्याग्नेः। आप्रा द्यावापृथिवी अन्तरिक्षं सूर्य आत्मा जगतस्तस्थुषश्च॥

citraṁ devānāmudagādanīkaṁ cakṣurmitrasya varuṇasyāgneḥ | āprā dyāvāpṛthivī antarikṣaṁ sūrya ātmā jagatastasthuṣaśca ||

THE brilliant presence of the Gods hath risen, the eye of Mitra, Varuna and Agni. The soul of all that moveth not or moveth, the Sun hath filled the air and earth and heaven.

सूर्यो देवीमुषसं रोचमानां मर्यो न योषामभ्येति पश्चात्। यत्रा नरो देवयन्तो युगानि वितन्वते प्रति भद्राय भद्रम्॥

sūryo devīmuṣasaṁ rocamānāṁ maryo na yoṣāmabhyeti paścāt | yatrā naro devayanto yugāni vitanvate prati bhadrāya bhadram ||

Like as a young man followeth a maiden, so doth the Sun the Dawn, refulgent Goddess: Where pious men extend their generations, before the Auspicious One for happy fortune.

भद्रा अश्वा हरितः सूर्यस्य चित्रा एतग्वा अनुमाद्यासः। नमस्यन्तो दिव आ पृष्ठमस्थुः परि द्यावापृथिवी यन्ति सद्यः॥

bhadrā aśvā haritaḥ sūryasya citrā etagvā anumādyāsaḥ | namasyanto diva ā pṛṣṭhamasthuḥ pari dyāvāpṛthivī yanti sadyaḥ ||

Auspicious are the Sun's Bay-coloured Horses, bright, changing hues, meet for our shouts of triumph. Bearing our prayers, die sky's ridge have they mounted, and in a moment speed round earth and heaven.

तत्सूर्यस्य देवत्वं तन्महित्वं मध्या कर्तोर्विततं सं जभार। यदेदयुक्त हरितः सधस्थादाद्रात्री वासस्तनुते सिमस्मै॥

tatsūryasya devatvaṁ tanmahitvaṁ madhyā kartorvitataṁ saṁ jabhāra | yadedayukta haritaḥ sadhasthādādrātrī vāsastanute simasmai ||

This is the Godhead, this might of Surya: he hath withdrawn what spread o'er work unfinished. When he hath loosed his Horses from their station, straight over all Night spreadeth out her garment.

तन्मित्रस्य वरुणस्याभिचक्षे सूर्यो रूपं कृणुते द्योरुपस्थे। अनन्तमन्यद्रुशदस्य पाजः कृष्णमन्यद्धरितः सं भरन्ति॥

tanmitrasya varuṇasyābhicakṣe sūryo rūpaṁ kṛṇute dyorupasthe | anantamanyadruśadasya pājaḥ kṛṣṇamanyaddharitaḥ saṁ bharanti ||

In the sky's lap the Sun this form assumeth that Varuna and Mitra may behold it. His Bay Steeds well maintain his power eternal, at one time bright and darksome at another.

अद्या देवा उदिता सूर्यस्य निरंहसः पिपृता निरवद्यात्। तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः॥

adyā devā uditā sūryasya niraṁhasaḥ pipṛtā niravadyāt | tanno mitro varuṇo māmahantāmaditiḥ sindhuḥ pṛthivī uta dyauḥ ||

This day, O Gods, while Surya is ascending, deliver us from trouble and dishonour. This prayer of ours may Varuna grant, and Mitra, and Aditi and Sindhu, Earth and Heaven.
