सूक्त १०३

तत्त इन्द्रियं परमं पराचैरधारयन्त कवयः पुरेदम्। क्षमेदमन्यद्दिव्यन्यदस्य समी पृच्यते समनेव केतुः॥

tatta indriyaṁ paramaṁ parācairadhārayanta kavayaḥ puredam | kṣamedamanyaddivyanyadasya samī pṛcyate samaneva ketuḥ ||

THAT highest Indra-power of thine is distant: that which is here sages possessed aforetime. This one is on the earth, in heaven the other, and both unite as flag with flag in battle.

स धारयत्पृथिवीं पप्रथच्च वज्रेण हत्वा निरपः ससर्ज। अहन्नहिमभिनद्रौहिणं व्यहन्व्यंसं मघवा शचीभिः॥

sa dhārayatpṛthivīṁ paprathacca vajreṇa hatvā nirapaḥ sasarja | ahannahimabhinadrauhiṇaṁ vyahanvyaṁsaṁ maghavā śacībhiḥ ||

He spread the wide earth out and firmly fixed it, smote with his thunderbolt and loosed the waters. Maghavan with his puissance struck down Ahi, rent Rauhipa to death and slaughtered Vyarnsa.

स जातूभर्मा श्रद्दधान ओजः पुरो विभिन्दन्नचरद्वि दासीः। विद्वान्वज्रिन्दस्यवे हेतिमस्यार्यं सहो वर्धया द्युम्नमिन्द्र॥

sa jātūbharmā śraddadhāna ojaḥ puro vibhindannacaradvi dāsīḥ | vidvānvajrindasyave hetimasyāryaṁ saho vardhayā dyumnamindra ||

Armed with his bolt and trusting in his prowess he wandered shattering the forts of Dasas. Cast thy dart, knowing, Thunderer, at the Dasyu; increase the Arya's might and glory, Indra.

तदूचुषे मानुषेमा युगानि कीर्तेन्यं मघवा नाम बिभ्रत्। उपप्रयन्दस्युहत्याय वज्री यद्ध सूनुः श्रवसे नाम दधे॥

tadūcuṣe mānuṣemā yugāni kīrtenyaṁ maghavā nāma bibhrat | upaprayandasyuhatyāya vajrī yaddha sūnuḥ śravase nāma dadhe ||

For him who thus hath taught these human races, Maghavan, bearing a fame-worthy title, Thunderer, drawing nigh to slay the Dasyus, hath given himself the name of Son for glory.

तदस्येदं पश्यता भूरि पुष्टं श्रदिन्द्रस्य धत्तन वीर्याय। स गा अविन्दत्सो अविन्ददश्वान्स ओषधीः सो अपः स वनानि॥

tadasyedaṁ paśyatā bhūri puṣṭaṁ śradindrasya dhattana vīryāya | sa gā avindatso avindadaśvānsa oṣadhīḥ so apaḥ sa vanāni ||

See this abundant wealth that he possesses, and put your trust in Indra's hero vigour. He found the cattle, and he found the horses, he found the plants, the forests and the waters.

भूरिकर्मणे वृषभाय वृष्णे सत्यशुष्माय सुनवाम सोमम्। य आदृत्या परिपन्थीव शूरोऽयज्वनो विभजन्नेति वेदः॥

bhūrikarmaṇe vṛṣabhāya vṛṣṇe satyaśuṣmāya sunavāma somam | ya ādṛtyā paripanthīva śūro'yajvano vibhajanneti vedaḥ ||

To him the truly strong, whose deeds are many, to him the strong Bull let us pour the Soma. The Hero, watching like a thief in ambush, goes parting the possessions of the godless.

तदिन्द्र प्रेव वीर्यं चकर्थ यत्ससन्तं वज्रेणाबोधयोऽहिम्। अनु त्वा पत्नीर्हृषितं वयश्च विश्वे देवासो अमदन्ननु त्वा॥

tadindra preva vīryaṁ cakartha yatsasantaṁ vajreṇābodhayo'him | anu tvā patnīrhṛṣitaṁ vayaśca viśve devāso amadannanu tvā ||

Well didst thou do that hero deed, O Indra, in waking with thy bolt the slumbering Ahi. in thee, delighted, Dames divine rejoiced them, the flying Maruts and all Gods were joyful.

शुष्णं पिप्रुं कुयवं वृत्रमिन्द्र यदावधीर्वि पुरः शम्बरस्य। तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः॥

śuṣṇaṁ pipruṁ kuyavaṁ vṛtramindra yadāvadhīrvi puraḥ śambarasya | tanno mitro varuṇo māmahantāmaditiḥ sindhuḥ pṛthivī uta dyauḥ ||

As thou hast smitten Susna, Pipru, Vrtra and Kuyava, and Sambara's forts O Indra. This prayer of ours may Varuna grant, and Mitra, and Aditi and Sindhu, Earth and Heaven.
