प्रो ष्वस्मै पुरोरथमिन्द्राय शूषमर्चत। अभीके चिदु लोककृत्संगे समत्सु वृत्रहास्माकं बोधि चोदिता नभन्तामन्यकेषां ज्याका अधि धन्वसु॥

Transliteration

pro ṣvasmai purorathamindrāya śūṣamarcata | abhīke cidu lokakṛtsaṁge samatsu vṛtrahāsmākaṁ bodhi coditā nabhantāmanyakeṣāṁ jyākā adhi dhanvasu ||

Translation

SING strength to Indra that shall set his chariot in the foremost place. Giver of room in closest fight, slayer of foes in shock of war, be thou our great encourager. Let the weak bowstrings break upon the bows of feeble enemies.

त्वं सिन्धूँरवासृजोऽधराचो अहन्नहिम्। अशत्रुरिन्द्र जज्ञिषे विश्वं पुष्यसि वार्यं तं त्वा परि ष्वजामहे नभन्तामन्यकेषां ज्याका अधि धन्वसु॥

Transliteration

tvaṁ sindhūravāsṛjo'dharāco ahannahim | aśatrurindra jajñiṣe viśvaṁ puṣyasi vāryaṁ taṁ tvā pari ṣvajāmahe nabhantāmanyakeṣāṁ jyākā adhi dhanvasu ||

Translation

Thou didst destroy the Dragon: thou sentest the rivers down to earth. Foeless, O Indra, wast thou born. Thou tendest well each choicest thing. Therefore we draw us close to thee. Let the weak bowstrings break upon the bows of feeble enemies.

वि षु विश्वा अरातयोऽर्यो नशन्त नो धियः। अस्तासि शत्रवे वधं यो न इन्द्र जिघांसति या ते रातिर्ददिर्वसु नभन्तामन्यकेषां ज्याका अधि धन्वसु॥

Transliteration

vi ṣu viśvā arātayo'ryo naśanta no dhiyaḥ | astāsi śatrave vadhaṁ yo na indra jighāṁsati yā te rātirdadirvasu nabhantāmanyakeṣāṁ jyākā adhi dhanvasu ||

Translation

Destroyed be all malignities and all our enemy's designs. Thy bolt thou castest, at the foe, O Indra, who would srnite us dead: thy liberal bounty gives us wealth.

Transliteration

yo na indrābhito jano vṛkāyurādideśati | adhaspadaṁ tamīṁ kṛdhi vibādho asi sāsahirnabhantāmanyakeṣāṁ jyākā adhi dhanvasu ||

Translation

The robber people round about, Indra, who watch and aim at us,- Trample them down beneath thy foot; a conquering scatterer art thou.

यो न इन्द्राभिदासति सनाभिर्यश्च निष्ट्यः। अव तस्य बलं तिर महीव द्यौरध त्मना नभन्तामन्यकेषां ज्याका अधि धन्वसु॥

Transliteration

yo na indrābhidāsati sanābhiryaśca niṣṭyaḥ | ava tasya balaṁ tira mahīva dyauradha tmanā nabhantāmanyakeṣāṁ jyākā adhi dhanvasu ||

Translation

Whoso assails us, Indra, be the man a stranger or akin, Bring down, thyself, his strength although it be as vast as are the heavens.

वयमिन्द्र त्वायवः सखित्वमा रभामहे। ऋतस्य नः पथा नयाति विश्वानि दुरिता नभन्तामन्यकेषां ज्याका अधि धन्वसु॥

Transliteration

vayamindra tvāyavaḥ sakhitvamā rabhāmahe | ṛtasya naḥ pathā nayāti viśvāni duritā nabhantāmanyakeṣāṁ jyākā adhi dhanvasu ||

Translation

Close to thy friendship do we cling, O Indra, and depend, or, thee. Lead us beyond all pain and grief along the path of holy Law.

अस्मभ्यं सु त्वमिन्द्र तां शिक्ष या दोहते प्रति वरं जरित्रे। अच्छिद्रोध्नी पीपयद्यथा नः सहस्रधारा पयसा मही गौः॥

Transliteration

asmabhyaṁ su tvamindra tāṁ śikṣa yā dohate prati varaṁ jaritre | acchidrodhnī pīpayadyathā naḥ sahasradhārā payasā mahī gauḥ ||

Translation

Do thou bestow upon us her, O Indra, who yields according to the singer's longing, That the great Cow may, with exhaustless udder, pouring a thousand streams, give milk to feed us.
