कदा वसो स्तोत्रं हर्यत आव श्मशा रुधद्वाः। दीर्घं सुतं वाताप्याय॥

Transliteration

kadā vaso stotraṁ haryata āva śmaśā rudhadvāḥ | dīrghaṁ sutaṁ vātāpyāya ||

Translation

WHEN, Vasu, wilt thou love the laud? Now let the channel bring the stream. The juice is ready to ferment.

हरी यस्य सुयुजा विव्रता वेरर्वन्तानु शेपा। उभा रजी न केशिना पतिर्दन्॥

Transliteration

harī yasya suyujā vivratā verarvantānu śepā | ubhā rajī na keśinā patirdan ||

Translation

He whose two Bay Steeds harnessed well, swerving, pursue the Bird's tail-plumes, With Rowing manes, like heaven and earth, he is the Lord with power to give.

अप योरिन्द्रः पापज आ मर्तो न शश्रमाणो बिभीवान्। शुभे यद्युयुजे तविषीवान्॥

Transliteration

apa yorindraḥ pāpaja ā marto na śaśramāṇo bibhīvān | śubhe yadyuyuje taviṣīvān ||

Translation

Bereft of skill is Indra, if, like some outwearied man he fears The sinner, when the Mighty hath prepared himself for victory.

सचायोरिन्द्रश्चर्कृष आँ उपानसः सपर्यन्। नदयोर्विव्रतयोः शूर इन्द्रः॥

Transliteration

sacāyorindraścarkṛṣa ā upānasaḥ saparyan | nadayorvivratayoḥ śūra indraḥ ||

Translation

Indra with these drives round, until he meets with one to worship him: Indra is Master of the pair who snort and swerve upon their way.

अधि यस्तस्थौ केशवन्ता व्यचस्वन्ता न पुष्ट्यै। वनोति शिप्राभ्यां शिप्रिणीवान्॥

Transliteration

adhi yastasthau keśavantā vyacasvantā na puṣṭyai | vanoti śiprābhyāṁ śipriṇīvān ||

Translation

Borne onward by the long-maned Steeds who stretch themselves as 'twere for food, The God who wears the helm defends them with his jaws.

Transliteration

prāstaudṛṣvaujā ṛṣvebhistatakṣa śūraḥ śavasā | ṛbhurna kratubhirmātariśvā ||

Translation

The Mighty sang with Lofty Ones: the Hero fashioned with his strength, Like skilful Matarisvan with his power and might,

वज्रं यश्चक्रे सुहनाय दस्यवे हिरीमशो हिरीमान्। अरुतहनुरद्भुतं न रजः॥

Transliteration

vajraṁ yaścakre suhanāya dasyave hirīmaśo hirīmān | arutahanuradbhutaṁ na rajaḥ ||

Translation

The bolt, which pierced at once the vitals of the Dasyu easy to be slain, With jaw uninjured like the wondrous firmament.

अव नो वृजिना शिशीह्यृचा वनेमानृचः। नाब्रह्मा यज्ञ ऋधग्जोषति त्वे॥

Transliteration

ava no vṛjinā śiśīhyṛcā vanemānṛcaḥ | nābrahmā yajña ṛdhagjoṣati tve ||

Translation

Grind off our sins: with song will we conquer the men who sing no hymns: Not easily art thou pleased with prayerless sacrifice.

ऊर्ध्वा यत्ते त्रेतिनी भूद्यज्ञस्य धूर्षु सद्मन्। सजूर्नावं स्वयशसं सचायोः॥

Transliteration

ūrdhvā yatte tretinī bhūdyajñasya dhūrṣu sadman | sajūrnāvaṁ svayaśasaṁ sacāyoḥ ||

Translation

When threefold flame burns high for thee, to rest on poles of sacrifice, Thou with the living joyest in the self-bright Ship.

Transliteration

śriye te pṛśnirupasecanī bhūcchriye darvirarepāḥ | yayā sve pātre siñcasa ut ||

Translation

Thy glory was the speckled cup, thy glory was the flawless scoop. Wherewith thou pourest into thy receptacle.

शतं वा यदसुर्य प्रति त्वा सुमित्र इत्थास्तौद्दुर्मित्र इत्थास्तौत्। आवो यद्दस्युहत्ये कुत्सपुत्रं प्रावो यद्दस्युहत्ये कुत्सवत्सम्॥

Transliteration

śataṁ vā yadasurya prati tvā sumitra itthāstauddurmitra itthāstaut | āvo yaddasyuhatye kutsaputraṁ prāvo yaddasyuhatye kutsavatsam ||

Translation

As hundreds, O Immortal God, have sung to thee, so hath Sumitra, yea, Durmitra praised thee here, What time thou holpest Kutsa's son, when Dasyus fell, yea, holpest Kutsa's darling when the Dasyus died.
