आशुः शिशानो वृषभो न भीमो घनाघनः क्षोभणश्चर्षणीनाम्। संक्रन्दनोऽनिमिष एकवीरः शतं सेना अजयत्साकमिन्द्रः॥

Transliteration

āśuḥ śiśāno vṛṣabho na bhīmo ghanāghanaḥ kṣobhaṇaścarṣaṇīnām | saṁkrandano'nimiṣa ekavīraḥ śataṁ senā ajayatsākamindraḥ ||

Translation

SWIFT, rapidly striking, like a bull who sharpens his horns, terrific, stirring up the people, With eyes that close not, bellowing, Sole Hero, Indra. subdued at once a hundred armies.

संक्रन्दनेनानिमिषेण जिष्णुना युत्कारेण दुश्च्यवनेन धृष्णुना। तदिन्द्रेण जयत तत्सहध्वं युधो नर इषुहस्तेन वृष्णा॥

Transliteration

saṁkrandanenānimiṣeṇa jiṣṇunā yutkāreṇa duścyavanena dhṛṣṇunā | tadindreṇa jayata tatsahadhvaṁ yudho nara iṣuhastena vṛṣṇā ||

Translation

With him loud-roaring, ever watchful, Victor, bold, hard to overthrow, Rouser of battle, Indra. the Strong, whose hand bears arrows, conquer, ye warriors, now, now vanquish in the combat.

स इषुहस्तैः स निषङ्गिभिर्वशी संस्रष्टा स युध इन्द्रो गणेन। संसृष्टजित्सोमपा बाहुशर्ध्युग्रधन्वा प्रतिहिताभिरस्ता॥

Transliteration

sa iṣuhastaiḥ sa niṣaṅgibhirvaśī saṁsraṣṭā sa yudha indro gaṇena | saṁsṛṣṭajitsomapā bāhuśardhyugradhanvā pratihitābhirastā ||

Translation

He rules with those who carry shafts and quivers, Indra who with his band rings hosts together, Foe-conquering, strong of arm, the Soma-drinker, with mighty bow, shooting with well-laid arrows.

बृहस्पते परि दीया रथेन रक्षोहामित्राँ अपबाधमानः। प्रभञ्जन्सेनाः प्रमृणो युधा जयन्नस्माकमेध्यविता रथानाम्॥

Transliteration

bṛhaspate pari dīyā rathena rakṣohāmitrā apabādhamānaḥ | prabhañjansenāḥ pramṛṇo yudhā jayannasmākamedhyavitā rathānām ||

Translation

Brhaspati, fly with thy chariot hither, slayer of demons, driving off our foemen. Be thou protector of our cars, destroyer, victor in battle, breaker-up of armies.

बलविज्ञायः स्थविरः प्रवीरः सहस्वान्वाजी सहमान उग्रः। अभिवीरो अभिसत्वा सहोजा जैत्रमिन्द्र रथमा तिष्ठ गोवित्॥

Transliteration

balavijñāyaḥ sthaviraḥ pravīraḥ sahasvānvājī sahamāna ugraḥ | abhivīro abhisatvā sahojā jaitramindra rathamā tiṣṭha govit ||

Translation

Conspicuous by thy strength, firm, foremost fighter, mighty and fierce, victorious, all-subduing, The Son of Conquest, passing men and heroes, kine-winner, mount thy conquering car, O Indra.

गोत्रभिदं गोविदं वज्रबाहुं जयन्तमज्म प्रमृणन्तमोजसा। इमं सजाता अनु वीरयध्वमिन्द्रं सखायो अनु सं रभध्वम्॥

Transliteration

gotrabhidaṁ govidaṁ vajrabāhuṁ jayantamajma pramṛṇantamojasā | imaṁ sajātā anu vīrayadhvamindraṁ sakhāyo anu saṁ rabhadhvam ||

Translation

Cleaver of stalls, kine-winner, armed with thunder, who quells an army and with might destroys it.- Follow him, brothers! quit yourselves like heroes, and like this Indra show your zeal and courage.

अभि गोत्राणि सहसा गाहमानोऽदयो वीरः शतमन्युरिन्द्रः। दुश्च्यवनः पृतनाषाळयुध्योऽस्माकं सेना अवतु प्र युत्सु॥

Transliteration

abhi gotrāṇi sahasā gāhamāno'dayo vīraḥ śatamanyurindraḥ | duścyavanaḥ pṛtanāṣāḻayudhyo'smākaṁ senā avatu pra yutsu ||

Translation

Piercing the cow-stalls with surpassing vigour, Indra, the pitiless Hero, wild with anger, Victor in fight, unshaken and resistless,may he protect our armies in our battles.

इन्द्र आसां नेता बृहस्पतिर्दक्षिणा यज्ञः पुर एतु सोमः। देवसेनानामभिभञ्जतीनां जयन्तीनां मरुतो यन्त्वग्रम्॥

Transliteration

indra āsāṁ netā bṛhaspatirdakṣiṇā yajñaḥ pura etu somaḥ | devasenānāmabhibhañjatīnāṁ jayantīnāṁ maruto yantvagram ||

Translation

Indra guide these: Brhaspati precede them, the guerdon, and the sacrifice, and Soma; And let the banded Maruts march in forefront of heavenly hosts that conquer and demolish.

इन्द्रस्य वृष्णो वरुणस्य राज्ञ आदित्यानां मरुतां शर्ध उग्रम्। महामनसां भुवनच्यवानां घोषो देवानां जयतामुदस्थात्॥

Transliteration

indrasya vṛṣṇo varuṇasya rājña ādityānāṁ marutāṁ śardha ugram | mahāmanasāṁ bhuvanacyavānāṁ ghoṣo devānāṁ jayatāmudasthāt ||

Translation

Ours be the potent host of mighty Indra, King Varuna, and Maruts, and Adityas. Uplifted is the shout of Gods who conquer high-minded Gods who cause the worlds to tremble.

उद्धर्षय मघवन्नायुधान्युत्सत्वनां मामकानां मनांसि। उद्वृत्रहन्वाजिनां वाजिनान्युद्रथानां जयतां यन्तु घोषाः॥

Transliteration

uddharṣaya maghavannāyudhānyutsatvanāṁ māmakānāṁ manāṁsi | udvṛtrahanvājināṁ vājinānyudrathānāṁ jayatāṁ yantu ghoṣāḥ ||

Translation

Bristle thou up, O Maghavan, our weapons: excite the spirits of my warring heroes. Urge on the strong steeds' might, O Vrtra-slayer, and let the din of conquering cars go upward.

अस्माकमिन्द्रः समृतेषु ध्वजेष्वस्माकं या इषवस्ता जयन्तु। अस्माकं वीरा उत्तरे भवन्त्वस्माँ उ देवा अवता हवेषु॥

Transliteration

asmākamindraḥ samṛteṣu dhvajeṣvasmākaṁ yā iṣavastā jayantu | asmākaṁ vīrā uttare bhavantvasmā u devā avatā haveṣu ||

Translation

May Indra aid us when our flags are gathered: victorious be the arrows of our army. May our brave men of war prevail in battle. Ye Gods, protect us in the shout of onset.

अमीषां चित्तं प्रतिलोभयन्ती गृहाणाङ्गान्यप्वे परेहि। अभि प्रेहि निर्दह हृत्सु शोकैरन्धेनामित्रास्तमसा सचन्ताम्॥

Transliteration

amīṣāṁ cittaṁ pratilobhayantī gṛhāṇāṅgānyapve parehi | abhi prehi nirdaha hṛtsu śokairandhenāmitrāstamasā sacantām ||

Translation

Bewildering the senses of our foemen, seize thou their bodies and depart, O Apva. Attack them, set their hearts on fire and burn them: so let our foes abide in utter darkness.

प्रेता जयता नर इन्द्रो वः शर्म यच्छतु। उग्रा वः सन्तु बाहवोऽनाधृष्या यथासथ॥

Transliteration

pretā jayatā nara indro vaḥ śarma yacchatu | ugrā vaḥ santu bāhavo'nādhṛṣyā yathāsatha ||

Translation

Advance, O heroes, win the day. May Indra be your sure defence. Exceeding mighty be your arms, that none may wound or injure you.
