प्र होता जातो महान्नभोविन्नृषद्वा सीददपामुपस्थे। दधिर्यो धायि स ते वयांसि यन्ता वसूनि विधते तनूपाः॥

Transliteration

pra hotā jāto mahānnabhovinnṛṣadvā sīdadapāmupasthe | dadhiryo dhāyi sa te vayāṁsi yantā vasūni vidhate tanūpāḥ ||

Translation

STABLISHED for thee, to lend thee vital forces, Giver of wealth, Guard of his servant's body. The Great Priest, born, who knows the clouds, Abider with men, is seated in the lap of waters.

इमं विधन्तो अपां सधस्थे पशुं न नष्टं पदैरनु ग्मन्। गुहा चतन्तमुशिजो नमोभिरिच्छन्तो धीरा भृगवोऽविन्दन्॥

Transliteration

imaṁ vidhanto apāṁ sadhasthe paśuṁ na naṣṭaṁ padairanu gman | guhā catantamuśijo namobhiricchanto dhīrā bhṛgavo'vindan ||

Translation

Worshipping, seeking him with adoration like some lost creature followed by its footprints, Wise Bhrgus, yearning in their hearts, pursued him, and found him lurking where the floods are gathered.

इमं त्रितो भूर्यविन्ददिच्छन्वैभूवसो मूर्धन्यघ्न्यायाः। स शेवृधो जात आ हर्म्येषु नाभिर्युवा भवति रोचनस्य॥

Transliteration

imaṁ trito bhūryavindadicchanvaibhūvaso mūrdhanyaghnyāyāḥ | sa śevṛdho jāta ā harmyeṣu nābhiryuvā bhavati rocanasya ||

Translation

On the Cow's forehead, with laborious searching, Trita, the offspring of Vibhiavas, found him. Born in our houses, Youthful, joy-bestower, he now becomes the central point of brightness.

मन्द्रं होतारमुशिजो नमोभिः प्राञ्चं यज्ञं नेतारमध्वराणाम्। विशामकृण्वन्नरतिं पावकं हव्यवाहं दधतो मानुषेषु॥

Transliteration

mandraṁ hotāramuśijo namobhiḥ prāñcaṁ yajñaṁ netāramadhvarāṇām | viśāmakṛṇvannaratiṁ pāvakaṁ havyavāhaṁ dadhato mānuṣeṣu ||

Translation

Yearning, with homage, they have set and made him blithe Priest among mankind, oblation-bearer, Leader of rites and Purifier, envoy of men, as sacrifice that still advances.

प्र भूर्जयन्तं महां विपोधां मूरा अमूरं पुरां दर्माणम्। नयन्तो गर्भं वनां धियं धुर्हिरिश्मश्रुं नार्वाणं धनर्चम्॥

Transliteration

pra bhūrjayantaṁ mahāṁ vipodhāṁ mūrā amūraṁ purāṁ darmāṇam | nayanto garbhaṁ vanāṁ dhiyaṁ dhurhiriśmaśruṁ nārvāṇaṁ dhanarcam ||

Translation

The foolish brought the ne'er-bewildered forward, great, Victor, Song-inspirer, Fort-destroyer. Leading the Youth gold-bearded, like a courser gleaming with wealth, they turned their hymn to profit.

नि पस्त्यासु त्रितः स्तभूयन्परिवीतो योनौ सीददन्तः। अतः संगृभ्या विशां दमूना विधर्मणायन्त्रैरीयते नॄन्॥

Transliteration

ni pastyāsu tritaḥ stabhūyanparivīto yonau sīdadantaḥ | ataḥ saṁgṛbhyā viśāṁ damūnā vidharmaṇāyantrairīyate nṝn ||

Translation

Holding his station firmly in the houses, Trita sat down within his home surrounded Thence, as Law bids, departs the Tribes' Companion having collected men with no compulsion.

अस्याजरासो दमामरित्रा अर्चद्धूमासो अग्नयः पावकाः। श्वितीचयः श्वात्रासो भुरण्यवो वनर्षदो वायवो न सोमाः॥

Transliteration

asyājarāso damāmaritrā arcaddhūmāso agnayaḥ pāvakāḥ | śvitīcayaḥ śvātrāso bhuraṇyavo vanarṣado vāyavo na somāḥ ||

Translation

His are the fires, eternal, purifying, that make the houses move, whose smoke is shining, White, waxing in their strength, for ever stirring, and sitting in the wood; like winds are Somas.

प्र जिह्वया भरते वेपो अग्निः प्र वयुनानि चेतसा पृथिव्याः। तमायवः शुचयन्तं पावकं मन्द्रं होतारं दधिरे यजिष्ठम्॥

Transliteration

pra jihvayā bharate vepo agniḥ pra vayunāni cetasā pṛthivyāḥ | tamāyavaḥ śucayantaṁ pāvakaṁ mandraṁ hotāraṁ dadhire yajiṣṭham ||

Translation

The tongue of Agni bears away the praisesong, and, through his care for Earth, her operations. Him, bright and radiant, living men have stablished as their blithe Priest, the Chief of Sacrificers.

द्यावा यमग्निं पृथिवी जनिष्टामापस्त्वष्टा भृगवो यं सहोभिः। ईळेन्यं प्रथमं मातरिश्वा देवास्ततक्षुर्मनवे यजत्रम्॥

Transliteration

dyāvā yamagniṁ pṛthivī janiṣṭāmāpastvaṣṭā bhṛgavo yaṁ sahobhiḥ | īḻenyaṁ prathamaṁ mātariśvā devāstatakṣurmanave yajatram ||

Translation

That Agni, him whom Heaven and Earth engendered, the Waters. Tvastar, and with might, the Bhrgus, Him Matarisvan and the Gods have fashioned holy for man and first to be entreated.

यं त्वा देवा दधिरे हव्यवाहं पुरुस्पृहो मानुषासो यजत्रम्। स यामन्नग्ने स्तुवते वयो धाः प्र देवयन्यशसः सं हि पूर्वीः॥

Transliteration

yaṁ tvā devā dadhire havyavāhaṁ puruspṛho mānuṣāso yajatram | sa yāmannagne stuvate vayo dhāḥ pra devayanyaśasaḥ saṁ hi pūrvīḥ ||

Translation

Agni, whom Gods have made oblationbearer, and much-desiring men regard as holy, Give life to him who lauds thee when he worships, and then shall glorious men in troops adore thee.
