Sukta 65

यदिन्द्र प्रागपागुदङ्न्यग्वा हूयसे नृभिः। आ याहि तूयमाशुभिः॥

yadindra prāgapāgudaṅnyagvā hūyase nṛbhiḥ | ā yāhi tūyamāśubhiḥ ||

NOT to forsake me, I invoke this Indra girt by Maruts, Lord Of magic power who rules with might.

यद्वा प्रस्रवणे दिवो मादयासे स्वर्णरे। यद्वा समुद्रे अन्धसः॥

yadvā prasravaṇe divo mādayāse svarṇare | yadvā samudre andhasaḥ ||

This Indra with his Marut Friends clave into pieces Vrtra's bead With hundred-knotted thunderbolt.

आ त्वा गीर्भिर्महामुरुं हुवे गामिव भोजसे। इन्द्र सोमस्य पीतये॥

ā tvā gīrbhirmahāmuruṁ huve gāmiva bhojase | indra somasya pītaye ||

Indra, with Marut Friends grown strong, hath rent asunder Vrtra, and Released the waters of the sea.

आ त इन्द्र महिमानं हरयो देव ते महः। रथे वहन्तु बिभ्रतः॥

ā ta indra mahimānaṁ harayo deva te mahaḥ | rathe vahantu bibhrataḥ ||

This is that Indra who, begirt by Maruts, won the light of heaven That he might drink the Soma juice.

इन्द्र गृणीष उ स्तुषे महाँ उग्र ईशानकृत्। एहि नः सुतं पिब॥

indra gṛṇīṣa u stuṣe mahā ugra īśānakṛt | ehi naḥ sutaṁ piba ||

Mighty, impetuous, begirt by Maruts, him who loudly roars, Indra we invocate with songs.

सुतावन्तस्त्वा वयं प्रयस्वन्तो हवामहे। इदं नो बर्हिरासदे॥

sutāvantastvā vayaṁ prayasvanto havāmahe | idaṁ no barhirāsade ||

Indra begirt by Maruts we invoke after the ancient plan, That he may drink the Soma juice.

यच्चिद्धि शश्वतामसीन्द्र साधारणस्त्वम्। तं त्वा वयं हवामहे॥

yacciddhi śaśvatāmasīndra sādhāraṇastvam | taṁ tvā vayaṁ havāmahe ||

O liberal Indra, Marut-girt, much-lauded Satakratu, drink The Soma at this sacrifice.

इदं ते सोम्यं मध्वधुक्षन्नद्रिभिर्नरः। जुषाण इन्द्र तत्पिब॥

idaṁ te somyaṁ madhvadhukṣannadribhirnaraḥ | juṣāṇa indra tatpiba ||

To thee, O Indra, Marut-girt, these Soma juices, Thunderer! Are offered from the heart with lauds.

विश्वाँ अर्यो विपश्चितोऽति ख्यस्तूयमा गहि। अस्मे धेहि श्रवो बृहत्॥

viśvā aryo vipaścito'ti khyastūyamā gahi | asme dhehi śravo bṛhat ||

Drink, Indra, with thy Marut Friends, pressed Soma at the morning rites, Whetting thy thunderbolt with strength.

दाता मे पृषतीनां राजा हिरण्यवीनाम्। मा देवा मघवा रिषत्॥

dātā me pṛṣatīnāṁ rājā hiraṇyavīnām | mā devā maghavā riṣat ||

Arising in thy might, thy jaws thou shookest, Indra, having quaffed The Soma which the mortar pressed.

सहस्रे पृषतीनामधि श्चन्द्रं बृहत्पृथु। शुक्रं हिरण्यमा ददे॥

sahasre pṛṣatīnāmadhi ścandraṁ bṛhatpṛthu | śukraṁ hiraṇyamā dade ||

Indra, both worlds complained to thee when uttering thy fearful roar, What time thou smotest Dasyus dead.

नपातो दुर्गहस्य मे सहस्रेण सुराधसः। श्रवो देवेष्वक्रत॥

napāto durgahasya me sahasreṇa surādhasaḥ | śravo deveṣvakrata ||

From Indra have I measured out a song eight-footed with nine parts, Delicate, faithful. to the Law.
