Sukta 8

दूतं वो विश्ववेदसं हव्यवाहममर्त्यम्। यजिष्ठमृञ्जसे गिरा॥

dūtaṁ vo viśvavedasaṁ havyavāhamamartyam | yajiṣṭhamṛñjase girā ||

YOUR envoy who possesses all, Immortal, bearer of your gifts, Best worshipper, I woo with song.

स हि वेदा वसुधितिं महाँ आरोधनं दिवः। स देवाँ एह वक्षति॥

sa hi vedā vasudhitiṁ mahā ārodhanaṁ divaḥ | sa devā eha vakṣati ||

He, Mighty, knows the gift of wealth, he knows the deep recess of heaven: He shall bring hitherward the Gods.

स वेद देव आनमं देवाँ ऋतायते दमे। दाति प्रियाणि चिद्वसु॥

sa veda deva ānamaṁ devā ṛtāyate dame | dāti priyāṇi cidvasu ||

He knows, a God himself, to guide Gods to the righteous in his home: He gives e'en treasures that we love.

स होता सेदु दूत्यं चिकित्वाँ अन्तरीयते। विद्वाँ आरोधनं दिवः॥

sa hotā sedu dūtyaṁ cikitvā antarīyate | vidvā ārodhanaṁ divaḥ ||

He is the Herald: well-informed, he doth his errand to and fro, Knowing the deep recess of heaven.

ते स्याम ये अग्नये ददाशुर्हव्यदातिभिः। य ईं पुष्यन्त इन्धते॥

te syāma ye agnaye dadāśurhavyadātibhiḥ | ya īṁ puṣyanta indhate ||

May we be they who gratify Agni with sacrificial gifts, Whocherish and enkindle him.

ते राया ते सुवीर्यैः ससवांसो वि शृण्विरे। ये अग्ना दधिरे दुवः॥

te rāyā te suvīryaiḥ sasavāṁso vi śṛṇvire | ye agnā dadhire duvaḥ ||

Illustrious for wealth are they, and hero deeds, victorious, Who have served Agni reverently.

अस्मे रायो दिवेदिवे सं चरन्तु पुरुस्पृहः। अस्मे वाजास ईरताम्॥

asme rāyo divedive saṁ carantu puruspṛhaḥ | asme vājāsa īratām ||

So unto us, day after day, may riches craved by many come, And power and might spring up for us.

स विप्रश्चर्षणीनां शवसा मानुषाणाम्। अति क्षिप्रेव विध्यति॥

sa vipraścarṣaṇīnāṁ śavasā mānuṣāṇām | ati kṣipreva vidhyati ||

That holy Singer in his strength shoots forth his arrows swifter than The swift shafts of the tribes of men.
