Sukta 188

समिद्धो अद्य राजसि देवो देवैः सहस्रजित्। दूतो हव्या कविर्वह॥

samiddho adya rājasi devo devaiḥ sahasrajit | dūto havyā kavirvaha ||

WINNER of thousands, kindled, thou shinest a God with Gods to-day. Bear out oblations, envoy, Sage.

तनूनपादृतं यते मध्वा यज्ञः समज्यते। दधत्सहस्रिणीरिषः॥

tanūnapādṛtaṁ yate madhvā yajñaḥ samajyate | dadhatsahasriṇīriṣaḥ ||

Child of Thyself the sacrifice is for the righteous blent with meath, Presenting viands thousandfold.

आजुह्वानो न ईड्यो देवाँ आ वक्षि यज्ञियान्। अग्ने सहस्रसा असि॥

ājuhvāno na īḍyo devā ā vakṣi yajñiyān | agne sahasrasā asi ||

Invoked and worthy of our praise bring Gods whose due is sacrifice: Thou, Agni, givest countless gifts.

प्राचीनं बर्हिरोजसा सहस्रवीरमस्तृणन्। यत्रादित्या विराजथ॥

prācīnaṁ barhirojasā sahasravīramastṛṇan | yatrādityā virājatha ||

To seat a thousand Heroes they eastward have strewn the grass with might, Whereon, Adityas, ye shine forth.

विराट् सम्राड्विभ्वीः प्रभ्वीर्बह्वीश्च भूयसीश्च याः। दुरो घृतान्यक्षरन्॥

virāṭ samrāḍvibhvīḥ prabhvīrbahvīśca bhūyasīśca yāḥ | duro ghṛtānyakṣaran ||

The sovran all-imperial Doors, wide, good, many and manifold, Have poured their streams of holy oil.

सुरुक्मे हि सुपेशसाधि श्रिया विराजतः। उषासावेह सीदताम्॥

surukme hi supeśasādhi śriyā virājataḥ | uṣāsāveha sīdatām ||

With gay adornment, fair to see, in glorious beauty shine they forth: Let Night and Morning rest them here.

प्रथमा हि सुवाचसा होतारा दैव्या कवी। यज्ञं नो यक्षतामिमम्॥

prathamā hi suvācasā hotārā daivyā kavī | yajñaṁ no yakṣatāmimam ||

Let these two Sages first of all, heralds divine and eloquent, Perform for us this sacrifice.

भारतीळे सरस्वति या वः सर्वा उपब्रुवे। ता नश्चोदयत श्रिये॥

bhāratīḻe sarasvati yā vaḥ sarvā upabruve | tā naścodayata śriye ||

You I address, Sarasvati, and Bharati, and Ila, all: Urge ye us on to glorious fame.

त्वष्टा रूपाणि हि प्रभुः पशून्विश्वान्समानजे। तेषां नः स्फातिमा यज॥

tvaṣṭā rūpāṇi hi prabhuḥ paśūnviśvānsamānaje | teṣāṁ naḥ sphātimā yaja ||

Tvastar the Lord hath made all forms and all the cattle of the field Cause them to multiply for us.

उप त्मन्या वनस्पते पाथो देवेभ्यः सृज। अग्निर्हव्यानि सिष्वदत्॥

upa tmanyā vanaspate pātho devebhyaḥ sṛja | agnirhavyāni siṣvadat ||

Send to the Gods, Vanaspati, thyself, the sacrificial draught: Let Agni make the oblations sweet.

पुरोगा अग्निर्देवानां गायत्रेण समज्यते। स्वाहाकृतीषु रोचते॥

purogā agnirdevānāṁ gāyatreṇa samajyate | svāhākṛtīṣu rocate ||

Agni, preceder of the Gods, is honoured with the sacred song: He glows at offerings blest with Hail!
