का त उपेतिर्मनसो वराय भुवदग्ने शंतमा का मनीषा। को वा यज्ञैः परि दक्षं त आप केन वा ते मनसा दाशेम॥

Transliteration

kā ta upetirmanaso varāya bhuvadagne śaṁtamā kā manīṣā | ko vā yajñaiḥ pari dakṣaṁ ta āpa kena vā te manasā dāśema ||

Translation

How may the mind draw nigh to please thee, Agni? What hymn of praise shall bring us greatest blessing? Or who hath gained thy power by sacrifices? or with what mind shall we bring thee oblations?

एह्यग्न इह होता नि षीदादब्धः सु पुरएता भवा नः। अवतां त्वा रोदसी विश्वमिन्वे यजा महे सौमनसाय देवान्॥

Transliteration

ehyagna iha hotā ni ṣīdādabdhaḥ su puraetā bhavā naḥ | avatāṁ tvā rodasī viśvaminve yajā mahe saumanasāya devān ||

Translation

Come hither, Agni; sit thee down as Hotar; be thou who never wast deceived our leader. May Heaven and Earth, the all-pervading, love thee: worship the Gods to win for us their favour.

प्र सु विश्वान्रक्षसो धक्ष्यग्ने भवा यज्ञानामभिशस्तिपावा। अथा वह सोमपतिं हरिभ्यामातिथ्यमस्मै चकृमा सुदाव्ने॥

Transliteration

pra su viśvānrakṣaso dhakṣyagne bhavā yajñānāmabhiśastipāvā | athā vaha somapatiṁ haribhyāmātithyamasmai cakṛmā sudāvne ||

Translation

Burn thou up all the Riksasas, O Agni; ward thou off curses from our sacrifices. Bring hither with his Bays the Lord of Soma: here is glad welcome for the Bounteous Giver.

प्रजावता वचसा वह्निरासा च हुवे नि च सत्सीह देवैः। वेषि होत्रमुत पोत्रं यजत्र बोधि प्रयन्तर्जनितर्वसूनाम्॥

Transliteration

prajāvatā vacasā vahnirāsā ca huve ni ca satsīha devaiḥ | veṣi hotramuta potraṁ yajatra bodhi prayantarjanitarvasūnām ||

Translation

Thou Priest with lip and voice that bring us children hast been invoked. Here with the Gods be seated. Thine is the task of Cleanser and Presenter: waken us, Wealth-bestower and Producer.

यथा विप्रस्य मनुषो हविर्भिर्देवाँ अयजः कविभिः कविः सन्। एवा होतः सत्यतर त्वमद्याग्ने मन्द्रया जुह्वा यजस्व॥

Transliteration

yathā viprasya manuṣo havirbhirdevā ayajaḥ kavibhiḥ kaviḥ san | evā hotaḥ satyatara tvamadyāgne mandrayā juhvā yajasva ||

Translation

As with oblations of the priestly Manus thou worshippedst the Gods, a Sage with sages, So now, O truthfullest Invoker Agni, worship this day with joy-bestowing ladle.
