उप प्र जिन्वन्नुशतीरुशन्तं पतिं न नित्यं जनयः सनीळाः। स्वसारः श्यावीमरुषीमजुष्रञ्चित्रमुच्छन्तीमुषसं न गावः॥

Transliteration

upa pra jinvannuśatīruśantaṁ patiṁ na nityaṁ janayaḥ sanīḻāḥ | svasāraḥ śyāvīmaruṣīmajuṣrañcitramucchantīmuṣasaṁ na gāvaḥ ||

Translation

LOVING the loving One, as wives their husband, the sisters of one home have urged him forward, Bright-coloured, even, as the cows love morning, dark, breaking forth to view, and redly beaming.

वीळु चिद्दृळ्हा पितरो न उक्थैरद्रिं रुजन्नङ्गिरसो रवेण। चक्रुर्दिवो बृहतो गातुमस्मे अहः स्वर्विविदुः केतुमुस्राः॥

Transliteration

vīḻu ciddṛḻhā pitaro na ukthairadriṁ rujannaṅgiraso raveṇa | cakrurdivo bṛhato gātumasme ahaḥ svarvividuḥ ketumusrāḥ ||

Translation

Our sires with lauds burst e'en the firmset fortress, yea, the Angirases, with roar, the mountain. They made for us a way to reach high heaven, they found us day, light, day's sign, beams of morning.

दधन्नृतं धनयन्नस्य धीतिमादिदर्यो दिधिष्वो विभृत्राः। अतृष्यन्तीरपसो यन्त्यच्छा देवाञ्जन्म प्रयसा वर्धयन्तीः॥

Transliteration

dadhannṛtaṁ dhanayannasya dhītimādidaryo didhiṣvo vibhṛtrāḥ | atṛṣyantīrapaso yantyacchā devāñjanma prayasā vardhayantīḥ ||

Translation

They stablished order, made his service fruitful; then parting them among the longing faithful, Not thirsting after aught, they come, most active, while with sweet food the race of Gods they strengthen.

मथीद्यदीं विभृतो मातरिश्वा गृहेगृहे श्येतो जेन्यो भूत्। आदीं राज्ञे न सहीयसे सचा सन्ना दूत्यं भृगवाणो विवाय॥

Transliteration

mathīdyadīṁ vibhṛto mātariśvā gṛhegṛhe śyeto jenyo bhūt | ādīṁ rājñe na sahīyase sacā sannā dūtyaṁ bhṛgavāṇo vivāya ||

Translation

Since Matarisvan, far-diffused, bath stirred him, and he in every house grown bright and noble, He, Bhrgu-like I hath gone as his companion, as on commission to a greater Sovran.

महे यत्पित्र ईं रसं दिवे करव त्सरत्पृशन्यश्चिकित्वान्। सृजदस्ता धृषता दिद्युमस्मै स्वायां देवो दुहितरि त्विषिं धात्॥

Transliteration

mahe yatpitra īṁ rasaṁ dive karava tsaratpṛśanyaścikitvān | sṛjadastā dhṛṣatā didyumasmai svāyāṁ devo duhitari tviṣiṁ dhāt ||

Translation

When man poured juice to Heaven, the mighty Father, he knew and freed himself from close embracement. The archer boldly shot at him his arrow, and the God threw his splendour on his Daughter.

स्व आ यस्तुभ्यं दम आ विभाति नमो वा दाशादुशतो अनु द्यून्। वर्धो अग्ने वयो अस्य द्विबर्हा यासद्राया सरथं यं जुनासि॥

Transliteration

sva ā yastubhyaṁ dama ā vibhāti namo vā dāśāduśato anu dyūn | vardho agne vayo asya dvibarhā yāsadrāyā sarathaṁ yaṁ junāsi ||

Translation

Whoso, bath flames for thee within his dwelling, or brings the worship which thou lovest daily, Do thou of double might increase his substance: may he whom thou incitest meet with riches.

अग्निं विश्वा अभि पृक्षः सचन्ते समुद्रं न स्रवतः सप्त यह्वीः। न जामिभिर्वि चिकिते वयो नो विदा देवेषु प्रमतिं चिकित्वान्॥

Transliteration

agniṁ viśvā abhi pṛkṣaḥ sacante samudraṁ na sravataḥ sapta yahvīḥ | na jāmibhirvi cikite vayo no vidā deveṣu pramatiṁ cikitvān ||

Translation

All sacrificial viands wait on Agni as the Seven mighty Rivers seek the ocean. Not by our brethren was our food discovered: find with the Gods care for us, thou who knowest.

आ यदिषे नृपतिं तेज आनट् छुचि रेतो निषिक्तं द्यौरभीके। अग्निः शर्धमनवद्यं युवानं स्वाध्यं जनयत्सूदयच्च॥

Transliteration

ā yadiṣe nṛpatiṁ teja ānaṭ chuci reto niṣiktaṁ dyaurabhīke | agniḥ śardhamanavadyaṁ yuvānaṁ svādhyaṁ janayatsūdayacca ||

Translation

When light bath filled the Lord of men for increase, straight from the heaven descends the limpid moisture. Agni bath brought to light and filled with spirit the youthful host blameless and well providing.

मनो न योऽध्वनः सद्य एत्येकः सत्रा सूरो वस्व ईशे। राजाना मित्रावरुणा सुपाणी गोषु प्रियममृतं रक्षमाणा॥

Transliteration

mano na yo'dhvanaḥ sadya etyekaḥ satrā sūro vasva īśe | rājānā mitrāvaruṇā supāṇī goṣu priyamamṛtaṁ rakṣamāṇā ||

Translation

He who like thought goes swiftly on his journey, the Sun, alone is ever Lord of riches. The Kings with fair hands, Varuna and Mitra, protect the precious nectar in our cattle.

मा नो अग्ने सख्या पित्र्याणि प्र मर्षिष्ठा अभि विदुष्कविः सन्। नभो न रूपं जरिमा मिनाति पुरा तस्या अभिशस्तेरधीहि॥

Transliteration

mā no agne sakhyā pitryāṇi pra marṣiṣṭhā abhi viduṣkaviḥ san | nabho na rūpaṁ jarimā mināti purā tasyā abhiśasteradhīhi ||

Translation

O Agni, break not our ancestral friendship, Sage as thou art, endowed with deepest knowledge. Old age, like gathering cloud, impairs the body: before that evil be come nigh protect me.
