सूक्त ६२

ऋतेन ऋतमपिहितं ध्रुवं वां सूर्यस्य यत्र विमुचन्त्यश्वान्। दश शता सह तस्थुस्तदेकं देवानां श्रेष्ठं वपुषामपश्यम्॥

ṛtena ṛtamapihitaṁ dhruvaṁ vāṁ sūryasya yatra vimucantyaśvān | daśa śatā saha tasthustadekaṁ devānāṁ śreṣṭhaṁ vapuṣāmapaśyam ||

तत्सु वां मित्रावरुणा महित्वमीर्मा तस्थुषीरहभिर्दुदुह्रे। विश्वाः पिन्वथः स्वसरस्य धेना अनु वामेकः पविरा ववर्त॥

tatsu vāṁ mitrāvaruṇā mahitvamīrmā tasthuṣīrahabhirduduhre | viśvāḥ pinvathaḥ svasarasya dhenā anu vāmekaḥ pavirā vavarta ||

This, Mitra-Varuna, is your special greatness: floods that stood there they with the days attracted. Ye cause to flow all voices of the cowpen: your single chariotfelly hath rolled hither.

अधारयतं पृथिवीमुत द्यां मित्रराजाना वरुणा महोभिः। वर्धयतमोषधीः पिन्वतं गा अव वृष्टिं सृजतं जीरदानू॥

adhārayataṁ pṛthivīmuta dyāṁ mitrarājānā varuṇā mahobhiḥ | vardhayatamoṣadhīḥ pinvataṁ gā ava vṛṣṭiṁ sṛjataṁ jīradānū ||

O Mitra-Varuna, ye by your greatness, both Kings, have firmly stablished earth and heaven, Ye caused the cows to stream, the plants to flourish, and, scattering swift drops, sent down the rain- flood.

आ वामश्वासः सुयुजो वहन्तु यतरश्मय उप यन्त्वर्वाक्। घृतस्य निर्णिगनु वर्तते वामुप सिन्धवः प्रदिवि क्षरन्ति॥

ā vāmaśvāsaḥ suyujo vahantu yataraśmaya upa yantvarvāk | ghṛtasya nirṇiganu vartate vāmupa sindhavaḥ pradivi kṣaranti ||

Let your well-harnessed horses bear you hither: hitherward let them come with reins drawn tightly. A covering cloud of sacred oil attends you, and your streams flow to us from days aforetime.

अनु श्रुताममतिं वर्धदुर्वीं बर्हिरिव यजुषा रक्षमाणा। नमस्वन्ता धृतदक्षाधि गर्ते मित्रासाथे वरुणेळास्वन्तः॥

anu śrutāmamatiṁ vardhadurvīṁ barhiriva yajuṣā rakṣamāṇā | namasvantā dhṛtadakṣādhi garte mitrāsāthe varuṇeḻāsvantaḥ ||

To make the lustre wider and more famous, guarding the sacred grass with veneration, Ye, Mitra-Varuna, firm, strong, awe-inspiring, are seated on a throne amid oblations.

अक्रविहस्ता सुकृते परस्पा यं त्रासाथे वरुणेळास्वन्तः। राजाना क्षत्रमहृणीयमाना सहस्रस्थूणं बिभृथः सह द्वौ॥

akravihastā sukṛte paraspā yaṁ trāsāthe varuṇeḻāsvantaḥ | rājānā kṣatramahṛṇīyamānā sahasrasthūṇaṁ bibhṛthaḥ saha dvau ||

With hands that shed no blood, guarding the pious, whom, Varuni3, ye save amid oblations. Ye Twain, together, Kings of willing spirit, uphold dominion based on thousand pillars.

हिरण्यनिर्णिगयो अस्य स्थूणा वि भ्राजते दिव्यश्वाजनीव। भद्रे क्षेत्रे निमिता तिल्विले वा सनेम मध्वो अधिगर्त्यस्य॥

hiraṇyanirṇigayo asya sthūṇā vi bhrājate divyaśvājanīva | bhadre kṣetre nimitā tilvile vā sanema madhvo adhigartyasya ||

Adorned with gold, its columns are of iron. in heaven it glitters like a whip for horses; Or stablished on a field deep-spoiled and fruitful. So may we share the meath that loads your car- seat.

हिरण्यरूपमुषसो व्युष्टावयःस्थूणमुदिता सूर्यस्य। आ रोहथो वरुण मित्र गर्तमतश्चक्षाथे अदितिं दितिं च॥

hiraṇyarūpamuṣaso vyuṣṭāvayaḥsthūṇamuditā sūryasya | ā rohatho varuṇa mitra gartamataścakṣāthe aditiṁ ditiṁ ca ||

Ye mount your car gold-hued at break of morning, and iron-pillared when the Sun is setting, And from that place, O Varuna and Mitra, behold infinity and limit~tion.

यद्बंहिष्ठं नातिविधे सुदानू अच्छिद्रं शर्म भुवनस्य गोपा। तेन नो मित्रावरुणावविष्टं सिषासन्तो जिगीवांसः स्याम॥

yadbaṁhiṣṭhaṁ nātividhe sudānū acchidraṁ śarma bhuvanasya gopā | tena no mitrāvaruṇāvaviṣṭaṁ siṣāsanto jigīvāṁsaḥ syāma ||

Bountiful guardians of the world! the shelter that is impenetrable, strongest, flawless, Aid us with that, O Varuna and Mitra, and when we long to win may we be victors.
