सूक्त १६

आ त्वा वहन्तु हरयो वृषणं सोमपीतये। इन्द्र त्वा सूरचक्षसः॥

ā tvā vahantu harayo vṛṣaṇaṁ somapītaye | indra tvā sūracakṣasaḥ ||

LET thy Bay Steeds bring thee, the Strong, hither to drink the Soma draught- Those, Indra, who are bright as suns.

इमा धाना घृतस्नुवो हरी इहोप वक्षतः। इन्द्रं सुखतमे रथे॥

imā dhānā ghṛtasnuvo harī ihopa vakṣataḥ | indraṁ sukhatame rathe ||

Here are the grains bedewed with oil: hither let the Bay Coursers bring Indra upon his easiest car.

इन्द्रं प्रातर्हवामह इन्द्रं प्रयत्यध्वरे। इन्द्रं सोमस्य पीतये॥

indraṁ prātarhavāmaha indraṁ prayatyadhvare | indraṁ somasya pītaye ||

Indra at early morn we call, Indra in course of sacrifice, Indra to drink the Soma juice.

उप नः सुतमा गहि हरिभिरिन्द्र केशिभिः। सुते हि त्वा हवामहे॥

upa naḥ sutamā gahi haribhirindra keśibhiḥ | sute hi tvā havāmahe ||

Come hither, with thy long-maned Steeds, O Indra, to- the draught we pour We call thee wher, the juice is shed.

सेमं नः स्तोममा गह्युपेदं सवनं सुतम्। गौरो न तृषितः पिब॥

semaṁ naḥ stomamā gahyupedaṁ savanaṁ sutam | gauro na tṛṣitaḥ piba ||

Come thou to this our song of praise, to the libation poured for thee Drink of it like a stag athirst.

इमे सोमास इन्दवः सुतासो अधि बर्हिषि। ताँ इन्द्र सहसे पिब॥

ime somāsa indavaḥ sutāso adhi barhiṣi | tā indra sahase piba ||

Here are the drops of Soma juice expressed on sacred grass: thereof Drink, Indra, to increase thy might.

अयं ते स्तोमो अग्रियो हृदिस्पृगस्तु शंतमः। अथा सोमं सुतं पिब॥

ayaṁ te stomo agriyo hṛdispṛgastu śaṁtamaḥ | athā somaṁ sutaṁ piba ||

Welcome to thee be this our hymn, reaching thy heart, most excellent: Then drink the Soma juice expressed.

विश्वमित्सवनं सुतमिन्द्रो मदाय गच्छति। वृत्रहा सोमपीतये॥

viśvamitsavanaṁ sutamindro madāya gacchati | vṛtrahā somapītaye ||

To every draught of pressed-out juice Indra, the Vrtra-slayer, comes, To drink the Soma for delight.

सेमं नः काममा पृण गोभिरश्वैः शतक्रतो। स्तवाम त्वा स्वाध्यः॥

semaṁ naḥ kāmamā pṛṇa gobhiraśvaiḥ śatakrato | stavāma tvā svādhyaḥ ||

Fulfil, O Satakratu, all our wish with horses and with kine: With holy thoughts we sing thy praise.
