सूक्त ५

आ त्वेता नि षीदतेन्द्रमभि प्र गायत। सखायः स्तोमवाहसः॥

ā tvetā ni ṣīdatendramabhi pra gāyata | sakhāyaḥ stomavāhasaḥ ||

O COME ye hither, sit ye down: to Indra sing ye forth, your song, companions, bringing hymns of praise.

पुरूतमं पुरूणामीशानं वार्याणाम्। इन्द्रं सोमे सचा सुते॥

purūtamaṁ purūṇāmīśānaṁ vāryāṇām | indraṁ some sacā sute ||

To him the richest of the rich, the Lord of treasures excellent, Indra, wi th Soma juice outpoured.

स घा नो योग आ भुवत्स राये स पुरंध्याम्। गमद्वाजेभिरा स नः॥

sa ghā no yoga ā bhuvatsa rāye sa puraṁdhyām | gamadvājebhirā sa naḥ ||

May he stand by us in our need and in abundance for our wealth: May he come nigh us with his strength.

यस्य संस्थे न वृण्वते हरी समत्सु शत्रवः। तस्मा इन्द्राय गायत॥

yasya saṁsthe na vṛṇvate harī samatsu śatravaḥ | tasmā indrāya gāyata ||

Whose pair of tawny horses yoked in battles foemen challenge not: To him, to Indra sing your song.

सुतपाव्ने सुता इमे शुचयो यन्ति वीतये। सोमासो दध्याशिरः॥

sutapāvne sutā ime śucayo yanti vītaye | somāso dadhyāśiraḥ ||

Nigh to the Soma-drinker come, for his enjoyment, these pure drops, The Somas mingled with the curd.

त्वं सुतस्य पीतये सद्यो वृद्धो अजायथाः। इन्द्र ज्यैष्ठ्याय सुक्रतो॥

tvaṁ sutasya pītaye sadyo vṛddho ajāyathāḥ | indra jyaiṣṭhyāya sukrato ||

Thou, grown at once to perfect strength, wast born to drink the Soma juice, Strong Indra, for preeminence.

आ त्वा विशन्त्वाशवः सोमास इन्द्र गिर्वणः। शं ते सन्तु प्रचेतसे॥

ā tvā viśantvāśavaḥ somāsa indra girvaṇaḥ | śaṁ te santu pracetase ||

O Indra, lover of the song, may these quick Somas enter thee: May they bring bliss to thee the Sage.

त्वां स्तोमा अवीवृधन्त्वामुक्था शतक्रतो। त्वां वर्धन्तु नो गिरः॥

tvāṁ stomā avīvṛdhantvāmukthā śatakrato | tvāṁ vardhantu no giraḥ ||

Our chants of praise have strengthened thee, O Satakratu, and our lauds So strengthen thee the songs we sing.

अक्षितोतिः सनेदिमं वाजमिन्द्रः सहस्रिणम्। यस्मिन्विश्वानि पौंस्या॥

akṣitotiḥ sanedimaṁ vājamindraḥ sahasriṇam | yasminviśvāni pauṁsyā ||

Indra, whose succour never fails, accept these viands thousandfold, Wherein all manly powers abide.

मा नो मर्ता अभि द्रुहन्तनूनामिन्द्र गिर्वणः। ईशानो यवया वधम्॥

mā no martā abhi druhantanūnāmindra girvaṇaḥ | īśāno yavayā vadham ||

O Indra, thou who lovest song, let no man hurt our bodies, keep Slaughter far from us, for thou canst.
