सूक्त ५९

प्र तार्यायुः प्रतरं नवीयः स्थातारेव क्रतुमता रथस्य। अध च्यवान उत्तवीत्यर्थं परातरं सु निरृतिर्जिहीताम्॥

pra tāryāyuḥ prataraṁ navīyaḥ sthātāreva kratumatā rathasya | adha cyavāna uttavītyarthaṁ parātaraṁ su nirṛtirjihītām ||

His life hath been renewed and carried forward as two men, car-borne, by the skilful driver. One falls, then seeks the goal with quickened vigour. Let Nirrti depart to distant places.

सामन्नु राये निधिमन्न्वन्नं करामहे सु पुरुध श्रवांसि। ता नो विश्वानि जरिता ममत्तु परातरं सु निरृतिर्जिहीताम्॥

sāmannu rāye nidhimannvannaṁ karāmahe su purudha śravāṁsi | tā no viśvāni jaritā mamattu parātaraṁ su nirṛtirjihītām ||

Here is the psalm for wealth, and food, in plenty: let us do many deeds to bring us glory. All these our doings shall delight the singer. Let Nirrti depart to distant places.

अभी ष्वर्यः पौंस्यैर्भवेम द्यौर्न भूमिं गिरयो नाज्रान्। ता नो विश्वानि जरिता चिकेत परातरं सु निरृतिर्जिहीताम्॥

abhī ṣvaryaḥ pauṁsyairbhavema dyaurna bhūmiṁ girayo nājrān | tā no viśvāni jaritā ciketa parātaraṁ su nirṛtirjihītām ||

May we o'ercome our foes with acts of valour, as heaven is over earth, hills over lowlands. All these our deeds the singer hath considered. Let Nirrti depart to distant places.

मो षु णः सोम मृत्यवे परा दाः पश्येम नु सूर्यमुच्चरन्तम्। द्युभिर्हितो जरिमा सू नो अस्तु परातरं सु निरृतिर्जिहीताम्॥

mo ṣu ṇaḥ soma mṛtyave parā dāḥ paśyema nu sūryamuccarantam | dyubhirhito jarimā sū no astu parātaraṁ su nirṛtirjihītām ||

Give us not up as prey to death, O Sorna still let us look upon the Sun arising. Let our old age with passing days be kindly. Let Nirrti depart to distant places.

असुनीते मनो अस्मासु धारय जीवातवे सु प्र तिरा न आयुः। रारन्धि नः सूर्यस्य संदृशि घृतेन त्वं तन्वं वर्धयस्व॥

asunīte mano asmāsu dhāraya jīvātave su pra tirā na āyuḥ | rārandhi naḥ sūryasya saṁdṛśi ghṛtena tvaṁ tanvaṁ vardhayasva ||

O Asuniti, keep the soul within us, and make the days we have to live yet longer. Grant that we still may look upon the sunlight: strengthen thy body with the oil we bring thee.

असुनीते पुनरस्मासु चक्षुः पुनः प्राणमिह नो धेहि भोगम्। ज्योक्पश्येम सूर्यमुच्चरन्तमनुमते मृळया नः स्वस्ति॥

asunīte punarasmāsu cakṣuḥ punaḥ prāṇamiha no dhehi bhogam | jyokpaśyema sūryamuccarantamanumate mṛḻayā naḥ svasti ||

Give us our sight again, O Asuniti, give us again our breath and our enjoyment. Long may we look upon the Sun uprising; O Anumati, favour thou and bless us.

पुनर्नो असुं पृथिवी ददातु पुनर्द्यौर्देवी पुनरन्तरिक्षम्। पुनर्नः सोमस्तन्वं ददातु पुनः पूषा पथ्यां या स्वस्तिः॥

punarno asuṁ pṛthivī dadātu punardyaurdevī punarantarikṣam | punarnaḥ somastanvaṁ dadātu punaḥ pūṣā pathyāṁ yā svastiḥ ||

May Earth restore to us our vital spirit, may Heaven the Goddess and mid-air restore it. May Soma give us once again our body, and Pusan show the Path of peace and comfort.

शं रोदसी सुबन्धवे यह्वी ऋतस्य मातरा। भरतामप यद्रपो द्यौः पृथिवि क्षमा रपो मो षु ते किं चनाममत्॥

śaṁ rodasī subandhave yahvī ṛtasya mātarā | bharatāmapa yadrapo dyauḥ pṛthivi kṣamā rapo mo ṣu te kiṁ canāmamat ||

May both Worlds bless Subandhu, young Mothers of everlasting Law. May Heaven and Earth uproot and sweep iniquity and shame away: nor sin nor sorrow trouble thee.

अव द्वके अव त्रिका दिवश्चरन्ति भेषजा। क्षमा चरिष्ण्वेककं भरतामप यद्रपो द्यौः पृथिवि क्षमा रपो मो षु ते किं चनाममत्॥

ava dvake ava trikā divaścaranti bheṣajā | kṣamā cariṣṇvekakaṁ bharatāmapa yadrapo dyauḥ pṛthivi kṣamā rapo mo ṣu te kiṁ canāmamat ||

Health-giving medicines descend sent down from heaven in twos and threes, Or wandering singly on the earth. May Heaven and Earth uproot and sweep iniquity and shame away: nor sin nor sorrow trouble thee.

समिन्द्रेरय गामनड्वाहं य आवहदुशीनराण्या अनः। भरतामप यद्रपो द्यौः पृथिवि क्षमा रपो मो षु ते किं चनाममत्॥

samindreraya gāmanaḍvāhaṁ ya āvahaduśīnarāṇyā anaḥ | bharatāmapa yadrapo dyauḥ pṛthivi kṣamā rapo mo ṣu te kiṁ canāmamat ||

Drive forward thou the wagon-ox, O Indra, which brought Usinarani's wagon hither. May Heaven and Earth uproot and sweep iniquity and shame away: nor sin nor sorrow trouble thee.
