सूक्त ५२

न तद्दिवा न पृथिव्यानु मन्ये न यज्ञेन नोत शमीभिराभिः। उब्जन्तु तं सुभ्वः पर्वतासो नि हीयतामतियाजस्य यष्टा॥

na taddivā na pṛthivyānu manye na yajñena nota śamībhirābhiḥ | ubjantu taṁ subhvaḥ parvatāso ni hīyatāmatiyājasya yaṣṭā ||

THIS I allow not in the earth or heaven, at sacrifice or in these holy duties. May the huge mountains crush him down: degraded be Atiyaja's sacrificing patron.

अति वा यो मरुतो मन्यते नो ब्रह्म वा यः क्रियमाणं निनित्सात्। तपूंषि तस्मै वृजिनानि सन्तु ब्रह्मद्विषमभि तं शोचतु द्यौः॥

ati vā yo maruto manyate no brahma vā yaḥ kriyamāṇaṁ ninitsāt | tapūṁṣi tasmai vṛjināni santu brahmadviṣamabhi taṁ śocatu dyauḥ ||

Or he who holds us in contempt, O Maruts, or seeks to blame the prayer that we are making, May agonies of burning be his portion. May the sky scorch the man who hates devotion.

किमङ्ग त्वा ब्रह्मणः सोम गोपां किमङ्ग त्वाहुरभिशस्तिपां नः। किमङ्ग नः पश्यसि निद्यमानान्ब्रह्मद्विषे तपुषिं हेतिमस्य॥

kimaṅga tvā brahmaṇaḥ soma gopāṁ kimaṅga tvāhurabhiśastipāṁ naḥ | kimaṅga naḥ paśyasi nidyamānānbrahmadviṣe tapuṣiṁ hetimasya ||

Why then, O Soma, do they call thee keeper of prayer? Why then our guardian from reproaches? Why then beholdest thou how men revile us? Cast thy hot dart at him who hates devotion.

अवन्तु मामुषसो जायमाना अवन्तु मा सिन्धवः पिन्वमानाः। अवन्तु मा पर्वतासो ध्रुवासोऽवन्तु मा पितरो देवहूतौ॥

avantu māmuṣaso jāyamānā avantu mā sindhavaḥ pinvamānāḥ | avantu mā parvatāso dhruvāso'vantu mā pitaro devahūtau ||

May Mornings as they spring to life, protect me, and may the Rivers as they swell preserve me. My guardians be the firmly-seated mountains: the Fathers, when I call on Gods, defend me!

विश्वदानीं सुमनसः स्याम पश्येम नु सूर्यमुच्चरन्तम्। तथा करद्वसुपतिर्वसूनां देवाँ ओहानोऽवसागमिष्ठः॥

viśvadānīṁ sumanasaḥ syāma paśyema nu sūryamuccarantam | tathā karadvasupatirvasūnāṁ devā ohāno'vasāgamiṣṭhaḥ ||

Through all our days may we be healthy. minded, and look upon the Sun when he arises. Grant this the Treasure-Lord of treasures, coming, observant, oftenest of Gods, with succour!

इन्द्रो नेदिष्ठमवसागमिष्ठः सरस्वती सिन्धुभिः पिन्वमाना। पर्जन्यो न ओषधीभिर्मयोभुरग्निः सुशंसः सुहवः पितेव॥

indro nediṣṭhamavasāgamiṣṭhaḥ sarasvatī sindhubhiḥ pinvamānā | parjanyo na oṣadhībhirmayobhuragniḥ suśaṁsaḥ suhavaḥ piteva ||

Most near, most oft comes Indra with protection, and she Sarasvati, who swells with rivers - Parjanya, bringing health with herbs, and Agni, well lauded swift to listen, like a father.

विश्वे देवास आ गत शृणुता म इमं हवम्। एदं बर्हिर्नि षीदत॥

viśve devāsa ā gata śṛṇutā ma imaṁ havam | edaṁ barhirni ṣīdata ||

Hear this mine invocation; come hither, O Universal Gods, Be seated on this holy grass.

यो वो देवा घृतस्नुना हव्येन प्रतिभूषति। तं विश्व उप गच्छथ॥

yo vo devā ghṛtasnunā havyena pratibhūṣati | taṁ viśva upa gacchatha ||

To him who comes to meet you, Gods, with offerings bathed in holy oil- Approach ye, one and all, to him.

उप नः सूनवो गिरः शृण्वन्त्वमृतस्य ये। सुमृळीका भवन्तु नः॥

upa naḥ sūnavo giraḥ śṛṇvantvamṛtasya ye | sumṛḻīkā bhavantu naḥ ||

All Sons of Immortality shall listen to the songs we sing, And be exceeding good to us.

विश्वे देवा ऋतावृध ऋतुभिर्हवनश्रुतः। जुषन्तां युज्यं पयः॥

viśve devā ṛtāvṛdha ṛtubhirhavanaśrutaḥ | juṣantāṁ yujyaṁ payaḥ ||

May all the Gods who strengthen Law, with Rtus, listening to our call, Be pleased with theit appropriate draught.

स्तोत्रमिन्द्रो मरुद्गणस्त्वष्टृमान्मित्रो अर्यमा। इमा हव्या जुषन्त नः॥

stotramindro marudgaṇastvaṣṭṛmānmitro aryamā | imā havyā juṣanta naḥ ||

May 1ndra, with the Marut host, with Tvastar, Mitra, Aryaman, Accept the laud and these our gifts.

इमं नो अग्ने अध्वरं होतर्वयुनशो यज। चिकित्वान्दैव्यं जनम्॥

imaṁ no agne adhvaraṁ hotarvayunaśo yaja | cikitvāndaivyaṁ janam ||

O Agni, Priest, as rules ordain, offer this sacrifice of ours, Remembering the Heavenly Folk.

विश्वे देवाः शृणुतेमं हवं मे ये अन्तरिक्षे य उप द्यवि ष्ठ। ये अग्निजिह्वा उत वा यजत्रा आसद्यास्मिन्बर्हिषि मादयध्वम्॥

viśve devāḥ śṛṇutemaṁ havaṁ me ye antarikṣe ya upa dyavi ṣṭha | ye agnijihvā uta vā yajatrā āsadyāsminbarhiṣi mādayadhvam ||

Listen, All-Gods, to this mine invocation, Ye who inhabit heaven, and air's midregions, All ye, O Holy Ones, whose tongue is Agni, seated upon this sacred grass, be joyful.

विश्वे देवा मम शृण्वन्तु यज्ञिया उभे रोदसी अपां नपाच्च मन्म। मा वो वचांसि परिचक्ष्याणि वोचं सुम्नेष्विद्वो अन्तमा मदेम॥

viśve devā mama śṛṇvantu yajñiyā ubhe rodasī apāṁ napācca manma | mā vo vacāṁsi paricakṣyāṇi vocaṁ sumneṣvidvo antamā madema ||

May the All-Gods who claim our worship hear my thought; may the two World-halves hear it, and the Waters' Child. Let me not utter words that ye may disregard. Closely allied with you may we rejoice in bliss.

ये के च ज्मा महिनो अहिमाया दिवो जज्ञिरे अपां सधस्थे। ते अस्मभ्यमिषये विश्वमायुः क्षप उस्रा वरिवस्यन्तु देवाः॥

ye ke ca jmā mahino ahimāyā divo jajñire apāṁ sadhasthe | te asmabhyamiṣaye viśvamāyuḥ kṣapa usrā varivasyantu devāḥ ||

And those who, Mighty, with the wiles of serpents, were born on earth, in heaven, where waters gather- May they vouchsafe us life of full duration. May the Gods kindly give us nights and mornings.

अग्नीपर्जन्याववतं धियं मेऽस्मिन्हवे सुहवा सुष्टुतिं नः। इळामन्यो जनयद्गर्भमन्यः प्रजावतीरिष आ धत्तमस्मे॥

agnīparjanyāvavataṁ dhiyaṁ me'sminhave suhavā suṣṭutiṁ naḥ | iḻāmanyo janayadgarbhamanyaḥ prajāvatīriṣa ā dhattamasme ||

At this my call, O Agni and Parjanya, help, swift to hear, my thought and our laudation. One generates holy food, the other offspring, so grant us food enough with store of children.

स्तीर्णे बर्हिषि समिधाने अग्नौ सूक्तेन महा नमसा विवासे। अस्मिन्नो अद्य विदथे यजत्रा विश्वे देवा हविषि मादयध्वम्॥

stīrṇe barhiṣi samidhāne agnau sūktena mahā namasā vivāse | asminno adya vidathe yajatrā viśve devā haviṣi mādayadhvam ||

When holy grass is strewn and fire enkindled, with hymn and lowly homage I invite you. All-Gods, to day in this our great assembly rejoice, ye Holy, in the gifts we offer.
