सूक्त २६

श्रुधी न इन्द्र ह्वयामसि त्वा महो वाजस्य सातौ वावृषाणाः। सं यद्विशोऽयन्त शूरसाता उग्रं नोऽवः पार्ये अहन्दाः॥

śrudhī na indra hvayāmasi tvā maho vājasya sātau vāvṛṣāṇāḥ | saṁ yadviśo'yanta śūrasātā ugraṁ no'vaḥ pārye ahandāḥ ||

O INDRA, hear us. Raining down the Soma, we call on thee to win us mighty valour. Give us strong succour on the day of trial, when the tribes gather on the field of battle.

त्वां वाजी हवते वाजिनेयो महो वाजस्य गध्यस्य सातौ। त्वां वृत्रेष्विन्द्र सत्पतिं तरुत्रं त्वां चष्टे मुष्टिहा गोषु युध्यन्॥

tvāṁ vājī havate vājineyo maho vājasya gadhyasya sātau | tvāṁ vṛtreṣvindra satpatiṁ tarutraṁ tvāṁ caṣṭe muṣṭihā goṣu yudhyan ||

The warrior, son of warrior sire, invokes thee, to gain great strength that may be won as booty: To thee, the brave man's Lord, the fiends' subduer, he looks when fighting hand to hand for cattle.

त्वं कविं चोदयोऽर्कसातौ त्वं कुत्साय शुष्णं दाशुषे वर्क्। त्वं शिरो अमर्मणः पराहन्नतिथिग्वाय शंस्यं करिष्यन्॥

tvaṁ kaviṁ codayo'rkasātau tvaṁ kutsāya śuṣṇaṁ dāśuṣe vark | tvaṁ śiro amarmaṇaḥ parāhannatithigvāya śaṁsyaṁ kariṣyan ||

Thou didst impel the sage to win the daylight, didst ruin Susna for the pious Kutsa. The invulnerable demon's head thou clavest when thou wouldst win the praise of Atithigva.

त्वं रथं प्र भरो योधमृष्वमावो युध्यन्तं वृषभं दशद्युम्। त्वं तुग्रं वेतसवे सचाहन्त्वं तुजिं गृणन्तमिन्द्र तूतोः॥

tvaṁ rathaṁ pra bharo yodhamṛṣvamāvo yudhyantaṁ vṛṣabhaṁ daśadyum | tvaṁ tugraṁ vetasave sacāhantvaṁ tujiṁ gṛṇantamindra tūtoḥ ||

The lofty battle-car thou broughtest forward; thou holpest Dasadyu the strong when fighting. Along with Vetasu thou slewest Tugra, and madest Tuji strong, who praised thee, Indra.

त्वं तदुक्थमिन्द्र बर्हणा कः प्र यच्छता सहस्रा शूर दर्षि। अव गिरेर्दासं शम्बरं हन्प्रावो दिवोदासं चित्राभिरूती॥

tvaṁ tadukthamindra barhaṇā kaḥ pra yacchatā sahasrā śūra darṣi | ava girerdāsaṁ śambaraṁ hanprāvo divodāsaṁ citrābhirūtī ||

Thou madest good the laud, what time thou rentest a hundred thousand fighting foes, O Hero, Slewest the Dasa Sambara of the mountain, and with strange aids didst succour Divodasa.

त्वं श्रद्धाभिर्मन्दसानः सोमैर्दभीतये चुमुरिमिन्द्र सिष्वप्। त्वं रजिं पिठीनसे दशस्यन्षष्टिं सहस्रा शच्या सचाहन्॥

tvaṁ śraddhābhirmandasānaḥ somairdabhītaye cumurimindra siṣvap | tvaṁ rajiṁ piṭhīnase daśasyanṣaṣṭiṁ sahasrā śacyā sacāhan ||

Made glad with Soma-draughts and faith, thou sentest Cumuri to his sleep, to please Dabhiti. Thou, kindly giving Raji to Pithinas, slewest with might, at once, the sixty thousand.

अहं चन तत्सूरिभिरानश्यां तव ज्याय इन्द्र सुम्नमोजः। त्वया यत्स्तवन्ते सधवीर वीरास्त्रिवरूथेन नहुषा शविष्ठ॥

ahaṁ cana tatsūribhirānaśyāṁ tava jyāya indra sumnamojaḥ | tvayā yatstavante sadhavīra vīrāstrivarūthena nahuṣā śaviṣṭha ||

May I too, with the liberal chiefs, O Indra, acquire thy blin supreme and domination, When, Mightiest! Hero-girt! Nahusa heroes boast them in thee, the triply-strong Defender.

वयं ते अस्यामिन्द्र द्युम्नहूतौ सखायः स्याम महिन प्रेष्ठाः। प्रातर्दनिः क्षत्रश्रीरस्तु श्रेष्ठो घने वृत्राणां सनये धनानाम्॥

vayaṁ te asyāmindra dyumnahūtau sakhāyaḥ syāma mahina preṣṭhāḥ | prātardaniḥ kṣatraśrīrastu śreṣṭho ghane vṛtrāṇāṁ sanaye dhanānām ||

So may we he thy friends, thy best beloved, O Indra, at this holy invocation. Best be Pratardani, illustrious ruler, in slaying foemen and in gaining riches.
