सूक्त ३१

कया नश्चित्र आ भुवदूती सदावृधः सखा। कया शचिष्ठया वृता॥

kayā naścitra ā bhuvadūtī sadāvṛdhaḥ sakhā | kayā śaciṣṭhayā vṛtā ||

WITH what help will he come to us, wonderful, ever-waxing Friend; With what most mighty company?

कस्त्वा सत्यो मदानां मंहिष्ठो मत्सदन्धसः। दृळ्हा चिदारुजे वसु॥

kastvā satyo madānāṁ maṁhiṣṭho matsadandhasaḥ | dṛḻhā cidāruje vasu ||

What genuine and most liberal draught will spirit thee with juice to burst Open e'en strongly-guarded wealth?

अभी षु णः सखीनामविता जरितॄणाम्। शतं भवास्यूतिभिः॥

abhī ṣu ṇaḥ sakhīnāmavitā jaritṝṇām | śataṁ bhavāsyūtibhiḥ ||

Do thou who art Protector of us thy friends who praise thee With hundred aids approach us.

अभी न आ ववृत्स्व चक्रं न वृत्तमर्वतः। नियुद्भिश्चर्षणीनाम्॥

abhī na ā vavṛtsva cakraṁ na vṛttamarvataḥ | niyudbhiścarṣaṇīnām ||

Like as a courser's circling wheel, so turn thee hitherward to us, Attracted by the hymns of men.

प्रवता हि क्रतूनामा हा पदेव गच्छसि। अभक्षि सूर्ये सचा॥

pravatā hi kratūnāmā hā padeva gacchasi | abhakṣi sūrye sacā ||

Thou seekest as it were thine own stations with swift descent of powers: I share thee even with the Sun.

सं यत्त इन्द्र मन्यवः सं चक्राणि दधन्विरे। अध त्वे अध सूर्ये॥

saṁ yatta indra manyavaḥ saṁ cakrāṇi dadhanvire | adha tve adha sūrye ||

What time thy courage and his wheels together, Indra, run their course With thee and with the Sun alike,

उत स्मा हि त्वामाहुरिन्मघवानं शचीपते। दातारमविदीधयुम्॥

uta smā hi tvāmāhurinmaghavānaṁ śacīpate | dātāramavidīdhayum ||

So even, Lord of Power and Might, the people call thee Maghavan, Giver, who pauses not to think.

उत स्मा सद्य इत्परि शशमानाय सुन्वते। पुरू चिन्मंहसे वसु॥

uta smā sadya itpari śaśamānāya sunvate | purū cinmaṁhase vasu ||

And verily to him who toils and presses Soma juice for thee Thou quickly givest ample wealth.

नहि ष्मा ते शतं चन राधो वरन्त आमुरः। न च्यौत्नानि करिष्यतः॥

nahi ṣmā te śataṁ cana rādho varanta āmuraḥ | na cyautnāni kariṣyataḥ ||

No, not a hundred hinderers can check thy gracious bounty's flow, Nor thy great deeds when thou wilt act.

अस्माँ अवन्तु ते शतमस्मान्सहस्रमूतयः। अस्मान्विश्वा अभिष्टयः॥

asmā avantu te śatamasmānsahasramūtayaḥ | asmānviśvā abhiṣṭayaḥ ||

May thine assistance keep us safe, thy hundred and thy thousand aids: May all thy favours strengthen us.

अस्माँ इहा वृणीष्व सख्याय स्वस्तये। महो राये दिवित्मते॥

asmā ihā vṛṇīṣva sakhyāya svastaye | maho rāye divitmate ||

Do thou elect us this place for friendship and prosperity, And great celestial opulence.

अस्माँ अविड्ढि विश्वहेन्द्र राया परीणसा। अस्मान्विश्वाभिरूतिभिः॥

asmā aviḍḍhi viśvahendra rāyā parīṇasā | asmānviśvābhirūtibhiḥ ||

Favour us, Indra, evermore with overflowing store of wealth: With all thy succours aid thou us.

अस्मभ्यं ताँ अपा वृधि व्रजाँ अस्तेव गोमतः। नवाभिरिन्द्रोतिभिः॥

asmabhyaṁ tā apā vṛdhi vrajā asteva gomataḥ | navābhirindrotibhiḥ ||

With new protections, Indra, like an archer, open thou forus The stables that are filled with kine.

अस्माकं धृष्णुया रथो द्युमाँ इन्द्रानपच्युतः। गव्युरश्वयुरीयते॥

asmākaṁ dhṛṣṇuyā ratho dyumā indrānapacyutaḥ | gavyuraśvayurīyate ||

Our chariot, Indra, boldly moves endued with splendour, ne'er repulsed, Winning for us both kine andsteeds.

अस्माकमुत्तमं कृधि श्रवो देवेषु सूर्य। वर्षिष्ठं द्यामिवोपरि॥

asmākamuttamaṁ kṛdhi śravo deveṣu sūrya | varṣiṣṭhaṁ dyāmivopari ||

O Surya, make our fame to be most excellent among the Gods, Most lofty as the heaven on high.
