सूक्त २७

गर्भे नु सन्नन्वेषामवेदमहं देवानां जनिमानि विश्वा। शतं मा पुर आयसीररक्षन्नध श्येनो जवसा निरदीयम्॥

garbhe nu sannanveṣāmavedamahaṁ devānāṁ janimāni viśvā | śataṁ mā pura āyasīrarakṣannadha śyeno javasā niradīyam ||

I, As I lay within the womb, considered all generations of these Gods in order. A hundred iron fortresses confined me but forth I flew with rapid speed a Falcon.

न घा स मामप जोषं जभाराभीमास त्वक्षसा वीर्येण। ईर्मा पुरंधिरजहादरातीरुत वाताँ अतरच्छूशुवानः॥

na ghā sa māmapa joṣaṁ jabhārābhīmāsa tvakṣasā vīryeṇa | īrmā puraṁdhirajahādarātīruta vātā ataracchūśuvānaḥ ||

Not at his own free pleasure did he bear me: he conquered with his strength and manly courage. Straightway the Bold One left the fiends behind him and passed the winds as he grew yet more mighty.

अव यच्छ्येनो अस्वनीदध द्योर्वि यद्यदि वात ऊहुः पुरंधिम्। सृजद्यदस्मा अव ह क्षिपज्ज्यां कृशानुरस्ता मनसा भुरण्यन्॥

ava yacchyeno asvanīdadha dyorvi yadyadi vāta ūhuḥ puraṁdhim | sṛjadyadasmā ava ha kṣipajjyāṁ kṛśānurastā manasā bhuraṇyan ||

When with loud cry from heaven down sped the Falcon, thence hasting like the wind he bore the Bold One. Then, wildly raging in his mind, the archer Krsanu aimed and loosed the string to strike him.

ऋजिप्य ईमिन्द्रावतो न भुज्युं श्येनो जभार बृहतो अधि ष्णोः। अन्तः पतत्पतत्र्यस्य पर्णमध यामनि प्रसितस्य तद्वेः॥

ṛjipya īmindrāvato na bhujyuṁ śyeno jabhāra bṛhato adhi ṣṇoḥ | antaḥ patatpatatryasya parṇamadha yāmani prasitasya tadveḥ ||

The Falcon bore him from heaven's lofty summit as the swift car of Indra's Friend bore Bhujyu. Then downward bither fell a flying feather of the Bird hasting forward in his journey.

अध श्वेतं कलशं गोभिरक्तमापिप्यानं मघवा शुक्रमन्धः। अध्वर्युभिः प्रयतं मध्वो अग्रमिन्द्रो मदाय प्रति धत्पिबध्यै शूरो मदाय प्रति धत्पिबध्यै॥

adha śvetaṁ kalaśaṁ gobhiraktamāpipyānaṁ maghavā śukramandhaḥ | adhvaryubhiḥ prayataṁ madhvo agramindro madāya prati dhatpibadhyai śūro madāya prati dhatpibadhyai ||

And now let Maghavan accept the beaker, white, filled with milk, filled with the shining liquid; The best of sweet meath which the priests have offered: that Indra to his joy may drink, the Hero, that he may take and drink it to his rapture.
