सूक्त १४०

अग्ने तव श्रवो वयो महि भ्राजन्ते अर्चयो विभावसो। बृहद्भानो शवसा वाजमुक्थ्यं दधासि दाशुषे कवे॥

agne tava śravo vayo mahi bhrājante arcayo vibhāvaso | bṛhadbhāno śavasā vājamukthyaṁ dadhāsi dāśuṣe kave ||

AGNI, life-power and fame are thine: thy fires blaze mightily, thou rich in wealth of beams! Sage, passing bright, thou givest to the worshipper, with strength, the food that merits laud.

पावकवर्चाः शुक्रवर्चा अनूनवर्चा उदियर्षि भानुना। पुत्रो मातरा विचरन्नुपावसि पृणक्षि रोदसी उभे॥

pāvakavarcāḥ śukravarcā anūnavarcā udiyarṣi bhānunā | putro mātarā vicarannupāvasi pṛṇakṣi rodasī ubhe ||

With brilliant, purifying sheen, with perfect sheen thou liftest up thyself in light. Thou, visiting both thy Mothers, aidest them as Son: thou joinest close the earth and heaven.

ऊर्जो नपाज्जातवेदः सुशस्तिभिर्मन्दस्व धीतिभिर्हितः। त्वे इषः सं दधुर्भूरिवर्पसश्चित्रोतयो वामजाताः॥

ūrjo napājjātavedaḥ suśastibhirmandasva dhītibhirhitaḥ | tve iṣaḥ saṁ dadhurbhūrivarpasaścitrotayo vāmajātāḥ ||

O Jatavedas, Son of Strength, rejoice ihyself, gracious, in our fair hymns and songs. In thee are treasured various forms of strengthening food, born nobly and of wondrous help.

इरज्यन्नग्ने प्रथयस्व जन्तुभिरस्मे रायो अमर्त्य। स दर्शतस्य वपुषो वि राजसि पृणक्षि सानसिं क्रतुम्॥

irajyannagne prathayasva jantubhirasme rāyo amartya | sa darśatasya vapuṣo vi rājasi pṛṇakṣi sānasiṁ kratum ||

Agni, spread forth, as Ruler, over living things: give wealth to us, Immortal God. Thou shinest out from beauty fair to look upon: thou leadest us to conquering power.

इष्कर्तारमध्वरस्य प्रचेतसं क्षयन्तं राधसो महः। रातिं वामस्य सुभगां महीमिषं दधासि सानसिं रयिम्॥

iṣkartāramadhvarasya pracetasaṁ kṣayantaṁ rādhaso mahaḥ | rātiṁ vāmasya subhagāṁ mahīmiṣaṁ dadhāsi sānasiṁ rayim ||

To him, the wise, who orders sacrifice, who hath great riches un der his control, Thou givest blest award of good, and plenteous food, givest him wealth that conquers all.

ऋतावानं महिषं विश्वदर्शतमग्निं सुम्नाय दधिरे पुरो जनाः। श्रुत्कर्णं सप्रथस्तमं त्वा गिरा दैव्यं मानुषा युगा॥

ṛtāvānaṁ mahiṣaṁ viśvadarśatamagniṁ sumnāya dadhire puro janāḥ | śrutkarṇaṁ saprathastamaṁ tvā girā daivyaṁ mānuṣā yugā ||

The men have set before them them for their welfare Agni, strong, visible to all, the Holy. Thee, Godlike One, with ears to hear, most famous, men's generations magnify with praise-songs.
