सूक्त ९४

प्रैते वदन्तु प्र वयं वदाम ग्रावभ्यो वाचं वदता वदद्भ्यः। यदद्रयः पर्वताः साकमाशवः श्लोकं घोषं भरथेन्द्राय सोमिनः॥

praite vadantu pra vayaṁ vadāma grāvabhyo vācaṁ vadatā vadadbhyaḥ | yadadrayaḥ parvatāḥ sākamāśavaḥ ślokaṁ ghoṣaṁ bharathendrāya sominaḥ ||

LET these speak loudly forth; let us speak out aloud: to the loud speaking Pressing-stones address the speech; When, rich with Soma juice, Stones of the mountain, ye, united, swift to Indra bring the sound of praise.

एते वदन्ति शतवत्सहस्रवदभि क्रन्दन्ति हरितेभिरासभिः। विष्ट्वी ग्रावाणः सुकृतः सुकृत्यया होतुश्चित्पूर्वे हविरद्यमाशत॥

ete vadanti śatavatsahasravadabhi krandanti haritebhirāsabhiḥ | viṣṭvī grāvāṇaḥ sukṛtaḥ sukṛtyayā hotuścitpūrve haviradyamāśata ||

They speak out like a hundred, like a thousand men: they cry aloud to us with their green-tinted mouths, While, pious Stones, they ply their task with piety, and, even before the Hotar, taste the offered food.

एते वदन्त्यविदन्नना मधु न्यूङ्खयन्ते अधि पक्व आमिषि। वृक्षस्य शाखामरुणस्य बप्सतस्ते सूभर्वा वृषभाः प्रेमराविषुः॥

ete vadantyavidannanā madhu nyūṅkhayante adhi pakva āmiṣi | vṛkṣasya śākhāmaruṇasya bapsataste sūbharvā vṛṣabhāḥ premarāviṣuḥ ||

Loudly they speak, for they have found the savoury meath: they make a humming sound over the meat prepared. As they devour the branch of the Red-coloured Tree, these, the well-pastured Bulls, have uttered bellowings.

बृहद्वदन्ति मदिरेण मन्दिनेन्द्रं क्रोशन्तोऽविदन्नना मधु। संरभ्या धीराः स्वसृभिरनर्तिषुराघोषयन्तः पृथिवीमुपब्दिभिः॥

bṛhadvadanti madireṇa mandinendraṁ krośanto'vidannanā madhu | saṁrabhyā dhīrāḥ svasṛbhiranartiṣurāghoṣayantaḥ pṛthivīmupabdibhiḥ ||

They cry aloud, with strong exhilarating drink, calling on Indra now, for they have found the meath. Bold, with the sisters they have danced, embraced by them, making the earth reecho with their ringing sound.

सुपर्णा वाचमक्रतोप द्यव्याखरे कृष्णा इषिरा अनर्तिषुः। न्यङ्नि यन्त्युपरस्य निष्कृतं पुरू रेतो दधिरे सूर्यश्वितः॥

suparṇā vācamakratopa dyavyākhare kṛṣṇā iṣirā anartiṣuḥ | nyaṅni yantyuparasya niṣkṛtaṁ purū reto dadhire sūryaśvitaḥ ||

The Eagles have sent forth their cry aloft in heaven; in the sky's vault the dark impetuous ones have danced. Then downward to the nether stone's fixt place they sink, and, splendid as the Sun, effuse their copious stream.

उग्रा इव प्रवहन्तः समायमुः साकं युक्ता वृषणो बिभ्रतो धुरः। यच्छ्वसन्तो जग्रसाना अराविषुः शृण्व एषां प्रोथथो अर्वतामिव॥

ugrā iva pravahantaḥ samāyamuḥ sākaṁ yuktā vṛṣaṇo bibhrato dhuraḥ | yacchvasanto jagrasānā arāviṣuḥ śṛṇva eṣāṁ prothatho arvatāmiva ||

Like strong ones drawing, they have put forth all their strength: the Bulls, harnessed together, bear the chariot-poles. When they have bellowed, panting, swallowing their food, the sound of their loud snorting is like that of steeds.

दशावनिभ्यो दशकक्ष्येभ्यो दशयोक्त्रेभ्यो दशयोजनेभ्यः। दशाभीशुभ्यो अर्चताजरेभ्यो दश धुरो दश युक्ता वहद्भ्यः॥

daśāvanibhyo daśakakṣyebhyo daśayoktrebhyo daśayojanebhyaḥ | daśābhīśubhyo arcatājarebhyo daśa dhuro daśa yuktā vahadbhyaḥ ||

To these who have ten workers and a tenfold girth, to these who have ten yoke-straps and ten binding thongs, To these who bear ten reins, the eternal, sing ye praise, to these who bear ten car-poles, ten when they are yoked.

ते अद्रयो दशयन्त्रास आशवस्तेषामाधानं पर्येति हर्यतम्। त ऊ सुतस्य सोम्यस्यान्धसोंऽशोः पीयूषं प्रथमस्य भेजिरे॥

te adrayo daśayantrāsa āśavasteṣāmādhānaṁ paryeti haryatam | ta ū sutasya somyasyāndhasoṁ'śoḥ pīyūṣaṁ prathamasya bhejire ||

These Stones with ten conductors, rapid in their course, with lovely revolution travel round and round. They have been first to drink the flowing Soma juice, first to enjoy the milky fluid of the stalk.

ते सोमादो हरी इन्द्रस्य निंसतेंऽशुं दुहन्तो अध्यासते गवि। तेभिर्दुग्धं पपिवान्सोम्यं मध्विन्द्रो वर्धते प्रथते वृषायते॥

te somādo harī indrasya niṁsateṁ'śuṁ duhanto adhyāsate gavi | tebhirdugdhaṁ papivānsomyaṁ madhvindro vardhate prathate vṛṣāyate ||

These Soma-eaters kiss Indra's Bay-coloured Steeds: draining. the stalk they sit upon the ox's hide. Indra, when he hath drunk Soma-nicath drawn by them, waxes in strength, is famed, is mighty as a Bull.

वृषा वो अंशुर्न किला रिषाथनेळावन्तः सदमित्स्थनाशिताः। रैवत्येव महसा चारवः स्थन यस्य ग्रावाणो अजुषध्वमध्वरम्॥

vṛṣā vo aṁśurna kilā riṣāthaneḻāvantaḥ sadamitsthanāśitāḥ | raivatyeva mahasā cāravaḥ sthana yasya grāvāṇo ajuṣadhvamadhvaram ||

Strong is your stalk; ye, verily, never shall be harmed; ye have refreshment, ye are ever satisfied. Fair are ye, as it were, through splendour of his wealth, his in whose sacrifice, O Stones, ye find delight.

तृदिला अतृदिलासो अद्रयोऽश्रमणा अशृथिता अमृत्यवः। अनातुरा अजराः स्थामविष्णवः सुपीवसो अतृषिता अतृष्णजः॥

tṛdilā atṛdilāso adrayo'śramaṇā aśṛthitā amṛtyavaḥ | anāturā ajarāḥ sthāmaviṣṇavaḥ supīvaso atṛṣitā atṛṣṇajaḥ ||

Bored deep, but not pierced through with holes, are ye, O Stones, not loosened, never weary, and exempt from death, Eternal, undiseased, moving in sundry ways, unthirsting, full of fatness, void of all desire.

ध्रुवा एव वः पितरो युगेयुगे क्षेमकामासः सदसो न युञ्जते। अजुर्यासो हरिषाचो हरिद्रव आ द्यां रवेण पृथिवीमशुश्रवुः॥

dhruvā eva vaḥ pitaro yugeyuge kṣemakāmāsaḥ sadaso na yuñjate | ajuryāso hariṣāco haridrava ā dyāṁ raveṇa pṛthivīmaśuśravuḥ ||

Your fathers, verily, stand firm from age to age: they, loving rest, are not dissevered from their seat. Untouched by time, ne'er lacking green plants and green trees, they with their voice have caused the heavens and earth to hear.

तदिद्वदन्त्यद्रयो विमोचने यामन्नञ्जस्पा इव घेदुपब्दिभिः। वपन्तो बीजमिव धान्याकृतः पृञ्चन्ति सोमं न मिनन्ति बप्सतः॥

tadidvadantyadrayo vimocane yāmannañjaspā iva ghedupabdibhiḥ | vapanto bījamiva dhānyākṛtaḥ pṛñcanti somaṁ na minanti bapsataḥ ||

This, this the Stones proclaim, what time they are disjoined, and when with ringing sounds they move and drink the balm. Like tillers of the ground when they are sowing seed, they mix the Soma, nor, devouring, minish it.

सुते अध्वरे अधि वाचमक्रता क्रीळयो न मातरं तुदन्तः। वि षू मुञ्चा सुषुवुषो मनीषां वि वर्तन्तामद्रयश्चायमानाः॥

sute adhvare adhi vācamakratā krīḻayo na mātaraṁ tudantaḥ | vi ṣū muñcā suṣuvuṣo manīṣāṁ vi vartantāmadrayaścāyamānāḥ ||

They have raised high their voice for juice, for sacrifice, striking the Mother earth as though they danced thereon. So loose thou too his thought who hath effused the sap, and let the Stones which we are honouring be disjoined.
