सूक्त ३०

प्र देवत्रा ब्रह्मणे गातुरेत्वपो अच्छा मनसो न प्रयुक्ति। महीं मित्रस्य वरुणस्य धासिं पृथुज्रयसे रीरधा सुवृक्तिम्॥

pra devatrā brahmaṇe gāturetvapo acchā manaso na prayukti | mahīṁ mitrasya varuṇasya dhāsiṁ pṛthujrayase rīradhā suvṛktim ||

As 'twere with swift exertion of the spirit, let the priest speed to the celestial Waters, The glorious food of Varuna and Mitra. To him who spreadeth far this laud I offer.

अध्वर्यवो हविष्मन्तो हि भूताच्छाप इतोशतीरुशन्तः। अव याश्चष्टे अरुणः सुपर्णस्तमास्यध्वमूर्मिमद्या सुहस्ताः॥

adhvaryavo haviṣmanto hi bhūtācchāpa itośatīruśantaḥ | ava yāścaṣṭe aruṇaḥ suparṇastamāsyadhvamūrmimadyā suhastāḥ ||

Adhvaryus, he ye ready with oblations,, and come with longing to the longing Waters, Down on which looks the. purple-tinted Eagle. Pour ye that flowing wave this day, deft-handed.

अध्वर्यवोऽप इता समुद्रमपां नपातं हविषा यजध्वम्। स वो दददूर्मिमद्या सुपूतं तस्मै सोमं मधुमन्तं सुनोत॥

adhvaryavo'pa itā samudramapāṁ napātaṁ haviṣā yajadhvam | sa vo dadadūrmimadyā supūtaṁ tasmai somaṁ madhumantaṁ sunota ||

Go to the reservoir, O ye Adhvaryus worship the Waters' Child with your oblations. A consecrated wave he now will give you, so press for him the Soma rich in sweetness.

यो अनिध्मो दीदयदप्स्वन्तर्यं विप्रास ईळते अध्वरेषु। अपां नपान्मधुमतीरपो दा याभिरिन्द्रो वावृधे वीर्याय॥

yo anidhmo dīdayadapsvantaryaṁ viprāsa īḻate adhvareṣu | apāṁ napānmadhumatīrapo dā yābhirindro vāvṛdhe vīryāya ||

He who shines bright in floods, unfed with fuel, whom sages worship at their sacrifices: Give waters rich in sweets, Child of the Waters, even those which gave heroic might to Indra:

याभिः सोमो मोदते हर्षते च कल्याणीभिर्युवतिभिर्न मर्यः। ता अध्वर्यो अपो अच्छा परेहि यदासिञ्चा ओषधीभिः पुनीतात्॥

yābhiḥ somo modate harṣate ca kalyāṇībhiryuvatibhirna maryaḥ | tā adhvaryo apo acchā parehi yadāsiñcā oṣadhībhiḥ punītāt ||

Those in which Soma joys and is delighted, as a young man with fair and pleasant damsels. Go thou unto those Waters, O Adhvaryu, and purify with herbs what thou infusest.

एवेद्यूने युवतयो नमन्त यदीमुशन्नुशतीरेत्यच्छ। सं जानते मनसा सं चिकित्रेऽध्वर्यवो धिषणापश्च देवीः॥

evedyūne yuvatayo namanta yadīmuśannuśatīretyaccha | saṁ jānate manasā saṁ cikitre'dhvaryavo dhiṣaṇāpaśca devīḥ ||

So maidens bow before the youthful gallant who comes with love to them who yearn to meet him. In heart accordant and in wish one-minded are the Adhvaryus and the heavenly Waters.

यो वो वृताभ्यो अकृणोदु लोकं यो वो मह्या अभिशस्तेरमुञ्चत्। तस्मा इन्द्राय मधुमन्तमूर्मिं देवमादनं प्र हिणोतनापः॥

yo vo vṛtābhyo akṛṇodu lokaṁ yo vo mahyā abhiśasteramuñcat | tasmā indrāya madhumantamūrmiṁ devamādanaṁ pra hiṇotanāpaḥ ||

He who made room for you when fast imprisoned, who freed you from the mighty imprecation,- Even to that Indra send the meath-rich current, the wave that gratifies the Gods, O Waters.

प्रास्मै हिनोत मधुमन्तमूर्मिं गर्भो यो वः सिन्धवो मध्व उत्सः। घृतपृष्ठमीड्यमध्वरेष्वापो रेवतीः शृणुता हवं मे॥

prāsmai hinota madhumantamūrmiṁ garbho yo vaḥ sindhavo madhva utsaḥ | ghṛtapṛṣṭhamīḍyamadhvareṣvāpo revatīḥ śṛṇutā havaṁ me ||

Send forth to him the meath-rich wave, O Rivers, which is your offspring and a well of sweetness, Oil-balmed, to be implored at sacrifices. Ye wealthy Waters, hear mine invocation.

तं सिन्धवो मत्सरमिन्द्रपानमूर्मिं प्र हेत य उभे इयर्ति। मदच्युतमौशानं नभोजां परि त्रितन्तुं विचरन्तमुत्सम्॥

taṁ sindhavo matsaramindrapānamūrmiṁ pra heta ya ubhe iyarti | madacyutamauśānaṁ nabhojāṁ pari tritantuṁ vicarantamutsam ||

Send forth the rapture-giving wave, O Rivers, which Indra drinks, which sets the Twain in motion; The well that springeth from the clouds, desirous, that wandereth triple-formed, distilling transport.

आवर्वृततीरध नु द्विधारा गोषुयुधो न नियवं चरन्तीः। ऋषे जनित्रीर्भुवनस्य पत्नीरपो वन्दस्व सवृधः सयोनीः॥

āvarvṛtatīradha nu dvidhārā goṣuyudho na niyavaṁ carantīḥ | ṛṣe janitrīrbhuvanasya patnīrapo vandasva savṛdhaḥ sayonīḥ ||

These winding Streams which with their double current, like cattle-raiders, seek the lower pastures,- Waters which dwell together, thrive together, Queens, Mothers of the world, these, Rsi, honour.

हिनोता नो अध्वरं देवयज्या हिनोत ब्रह्म सनये धनानाम्। ऋतस्य योगे वि ष्यध्वमूधः श्रुष्टीवरीर्भूतनास्मभ्यमापः॥

hinotā no adhvaraṁ devayajyā hinota brahma sanaye dhanānām | ṛtasya yoge vi ṣyadhvamūdhaḥ śruṣṭīvarīrbhūtanāsmabhyamāpaḥ ||

Send forth our sacrifice with holy worship send forth the hymn and prayer for gain of riches. For need of sacrifice disclose the udder. Give gracious hearing to our call, O Waters.

आपो रेवतीः क्षयथा हि वस्वः क्रतुं च भद्रं बिभृथामृतं च। रायश्च स्थ स्वपत्यस्य पत्नीः सरस्वती तद्गृणते वयो धात्॥

āpo revatīḥ kṣayathā hi vasvaḥ kratuṁ ca bhadraṁ bibhṛthāmṛtaṁ ca | rāyaśca stha svapatyasya patnīḥ sarasvatī tadgṛṇate vayo dhāt ||

For, wealthy Waters, ye control all treasures: ye bring auspicious intellect and Amrta. Ye are the Queens of independent riches Sarasvati give full life to the singer!

प्रति यदापो अदृश्रमायतीर्घृतं पयांसि बिभ्रतीर्मधूनि। अध्वर्युभिर्मनसा संविदाना इन्द्राय सोमं सुषुतं भरन्तीः॥

prati yadāpo adṛśramāyatīrghṛtaṁ payāṁsi bibhratīrmadhūni | adhvaryubhirmanasā saṁvidānā indrāya somaṁ suṣutaṁ bharantīḥ ||

When I behold the Waters coming hither, carrying with them milk and mcath and butter, Bearing the well-pressed Soma juice to Indra, they harmonize in spirit with Adhvaryus.

एमा अग्मन्रेवतीर्जीवधन्या अध्वर्यवः सादयता सखायः। नि बर्हिषि धत्तन सोम्यासोऽपां नप्त्रा संविदानास एनाः॥

emā agmanrevatīrjīvadhanyā adhvaryavaḥ sādayatā sakhāyaḥ | ni barhiṣi dhattana somyāso'pāṁ naptrā saṁvidānāsa enāḥ ||

Rich, they are come with wealth for living beings, O friends, Adhvaryus, seat them in their places. Seat them on holy grass, ye Soma-bringers in harmony with the Offspring of the Waters.

आग्मन्नाप उशतीर्बर्हिरेदं न्यध्वरे असदन्देवयन्तीः। अध्वर्यवः सुनुतेन्द्राय सोममभूदु वः सुशका देवयज्या॥

āgmannāpa uśatīrbarhiredaṁ nyadhvare asadandevayantīḥ | adhvaryavaḥ sunutendrāya somamabhūdu vaḥ suśakā devayajyā ||

Now to this grass are come the longing Waters: the Pious Ones are seated at our worship. Adbvaryus, press the Soma juice for Indra so will the service of the Gods be easy.
