सूक्त १७

आ याहि सुषुमा हि त इन्द्र सोमं पिबा इमम्। एदं बर्हिः सदो मम॥

ā yāhi suṣumā hi ta indra somaṁ pibā imam | edaṁ barhiḥ sado mama ||

COME, we have pressed the juice for thee; O Indra, drink this Soma here Sit thou on this my sacred grass.

आ त्वा ब्रह्मयुजा हरी वहतामिन्द्र केशिना। उप ब्रह्माणि नः शृणु॥

ā tvā brahmayujā harī vahatāmindra keśinā | upa brahmāṇi naḥ śṛṇu ||

O Indra, let thy long-maned Bays, yoked by prayer, bring thee hitherward Give car and listen to our prayers.

ब्रह्माणस्त्वा वयं युजा सोमपामिन्द्र सोमिनः। सुतावन्तो हवामहे॥

brahmāṇastvā vayaṁ yujā somapāmindra sominaḥ | sutāvanto havāmahe ||

We Soma-bearing Brahmans call thee Soma-drinker with thy friend, We, Indra, bringing Soma juice.

आ नो याहि सुतावतोऽस्माकं सुष्टुतीरुप। पिबा सु शिप्रिन्नन्धसः॥

ā no yāhi sutāvato'smākaṁ suṣṭutīrupa | pibā su śiprinnandhasaḥ ||

Come unto us who bring the juice, come unto this our eulogy, Fair-visored! drink thou of the juice.

आ ते सिञ्चामि कुक्ष्योरनु गात्रा वि धावतु। गृभाय जिह्वया मधु॥

ā te siñcāmi kukṣyoranu gātrā vi dhāvatu | gṛbhāya jihvayā madhu ||

I pour it down within thee, so through all thy members let it spread: Take with. thy tongue the pleasant drink.

स्वादुष्टे अस्तु संसुदे मधुमान्तन्वे तव। सोमः शमस्तु ते हृदे॥

svāduṣṭe astu saṁsude madhumāntanve tava | somaḥ śamastu te hṛde ||

Sweet to thy body let it be, delicious be the savoury juice: Sweet be the Soma to thine heart.

अयमु त्वा विचर्षणे जनीरिवाभि संवृतः। प्र सोम इन्द्र सर्पतु॥

ayamu tvā vicarṣaṇe janīrivābhi saṁvṛtaḥ | pra soma indra sarpatu ||

Like women, let this Soma-draught, invested with its robe, approach, O active Indra, close to thee.

तुविग्रीवो वपोदरः सुबाहुरन्धसो मदे। इन्द्रो वृत्राणि जिघ्नते॥

tuvigrīvo vapodaraḥ subāhurandhaso made | indro vṛtrāṇi jighnate ||

Indra, transported with the juice, vast in his bulk, strong in his neck And stout arms, smites the Vrtras down.

इन्द्र प्रेहि पुरस्त्वं विश्वस्येशान ओजसा। वृत्राणि वृत्रहञ्जहि॥

indra prehi purastvaṁ viśvasyeśāna ojasā | vṛtrāṇi vṛtrahañjahi ||

O Indra, go thou forward, thou who rulest over all by might: Thou Vrtra-slayer slay the fiends,

दीर्घस्ते अस्त्वङ्कुशो येना वसु प्रयच्छसि। यजमानाय सुन्वते॥

dīrghaste astvaṅkuśo yenā vasu prayacchasi | yajamānāya sunvate ||

Long be thy grasping-hook wherewith thou givest ample wealth to him Who sheds the juice and worships thee.

अयं त इन्द्र सोमो निपूतो अधि बर्हिषि। एहीमस्य द्रवा पिब॥

ayaṁ ta indra somo nipūto adhi barhiṣi | ehīmasya dravā piba ||

Here, Indra, is thy Soma-draught, made pure upon the sacred grass: Run hither, come and drink thereof.

शाचिगो शाचिपूजनायं रणाय ते सुतः। आखण्डल प्र हूयसे॥

śācigo śācipūjanāyaṁ raṇāya te sutaḥ | ākhaṇḍala pra hūyase ||

Famed for thy radiance, worshipped well this juice is shed for thy delight Thou art invoked, Akhandala!

यस्ते शृङ्गवृषो नपात्प्रणपात्कुण्डपाय्यः। न्यस्मिन्दध्र आ मनः॥

yaste śṛṅgavṛṣo napātpraṇapātkuṇḍapāyyaḥ | nyasmindadhra ā manaḥ ||

To Kundapayya, grandson's son, grandson of Srngavrs! to thee, To him have I addressed my thought.

वास्तोष्पते ध्रुवा स्थूणांसत्रं सोम्यानाम्। द्रप्सो भेत्ता पुरां शश्वतीनामिन्द्रो मुनीनां सखा॥

vāstoṣpate dhruvā sthūṇāṁsatraṁ somyānām | drapso bhettā purāṁ śaśvatīnāmindro munīnāṁ sakhā ||

Strong pillar thou, Lord of the home armour of Soma-offerers: The drop of Soma breaketh all the strongholds down, and Indra is the Rsis' Friend.

पृदाकुसानुर्यजतो गवेषण एकः सन्नभि भूयसः। भूर्णिमश्वं नयत्तुजा पुरो गृभेन्द्रं सोमस्य पीतये॥

pṛdākusānuryajato gaveṣaṇa ekaḥ sannabhi bhūyasaḥ | bhūrṇimaśvaṁ nayattujā puro gṛbhendraṁ somasya pītaye ||

Holy Prdikusanu, winner of the spoil, one eminent o'er many men, Lead on the wild horse Indra with his vigorous grasp forward to drink the Soma juice.
