सूक्त १८२

अभूदिदं वयुनमो षु भूषता रथो वृषण्वान्मदता मनीषिणः। धियंजिन्वा धिष्ण्या विश्पलावसू दिवो नपाता सुकृते शुचिव्रता॥

abhūdidaṁ vayunamo ṣu bhūṣatā ratho vṛṣaṇvānmadatā manīṣiṇaḥ | dhiyaṁjinvā dhiṣṇyā viśpalāvasū divo napātā sukṛte śucivratā ||

THIS was the task. Appear promptly, ye prudent Ones. Here is the chariot drawn by strong steeds: be ye glad. Heart-stirring, longed for, succourers of Vispala, here are Heaven's Sons whose sway blesses the pious man.

इन्द्रतमा हि धिष्ण्या मरुत्तमा दस्रा दंसिष्ठा रथ्या रथीतमा। पूर्णं रथं वहेथे मध्व आचितं तेन दाश्वांसमुप याथो अश्विना॥

indratamā hi dhiṣṇyā maruttamā dasrā daṁsiṣṭhā rathyā rathītamā | pūrṇaṁ rathaṁ vahethe madhva ācitaṁ tena dāśvāṁsamupa yātho aśvinā ||

Longed for, most Indra-like, mighty, most Marut-like, most w6nderful in deed, car-borne, best charioteers, Bring your full chariot hither heaped with liquid sweet: thereon, ye Mvins, come to him who offers gifts.

किमत्र दस्रा कृणुथः किमासाथे जनो यः कश्चिदहविर्महीयते। अति क्रमिष्टं जुरतं पणेरसुं ज्योतिर्विप्राय कृणुतं वचस्यवे॥

kimatra dasrā kṛṇuthaḥ kimāsāthe jano yaḥ kaścidahavirmahīyate | ati kramiṣṭaṁ jurataṁ paṇerasuṁ jyotirviprāya kṛṇutaṁ vacasyave ||

What make ye there, ye Mighty? Wherefore linger ye with folk who, offering not, are held in high esteem? Pass over them; make ye the niggard's life decay: give light unto the singer eloquent in praise.

जम्भयतमभितो रायतः शुनो हतं मृधो विदथुस्तान्यश्विना। वाचंवाचं जरितू रत्निनीं कृतमुभा शंसं नासत्यावतं मम॥

jambhayatamabhito rāyataḥ śuno hataṁ mṛdho vidathustānyaśvinā | vācaṁvācaṁ jaritū ratninīṁ kṛtamubhā śaṁsaṁ nāsatyāvataṁ mama ||

Crunch up on. every side the dogs who bark at us: slay ye our foes, O Asvins this ye understand. Make wealthy every word of him who praises you: accept with favour, both Nasatyas, this my laud.

युवमेतं चक्रथुः सिन्धुषु प्लवमात्मन्वन्तं पक्षिणं तौग्र्याय कम्। येन देवत्रा मनसा निरूहथुः सुपप्तनी पेतथुः क्षोदसो महः॥

yuvametaṁ cakrathuḥ sindhuṣu plavamātmanvantaṁ pakṣiṇaṁ taugryāya kam | yena devatrā manasā nirūhathuḥ supaptanī petathuḥ kṣodaso mahaḥ ||

Ye made for Tugra's son amid the water-floods that animated ship with wings to fly withal, Whereon with God-devoted mind ye brought him forth, and fled with easy flight from out the mighty surge.

अवविद्धं तौग्र्यमप्स्वन्तरनारम्भणे तमसि प्रविद्धम्। चतस्रो नावो जठलस्य जुष्टा उदश्विभ्यामिषिताः पारयन्ति॥

avaviddhaṁ taugryamapsvantaranārambhaṇe tamasi praviddham | catasro nāvo jaṭhalasya juṣṭā udaśvibhyāmiṣitāḥ pārayanti ||

Four ships most welcome in the midst of ocean, urged by the Asvins, save the son of Tugra, Him who was cast down headlong in the waters, plunged in the thick inevitable darkness.

कः स्विद्वृक्षो निष्ठितो मध्ये अर्णसो यं तौग्र्यो नाधितः पर्यषस्वजत्। पर्णा मृगस्य पतरोरिवारभ उदश्विना ऊहथुः श्रोमताय कम्॥

kaḥ svidvṛkṣo niṣṭhito madhye arṇaso yaṁ taugryo nādhitaḥ paryaṣasvajat | parṇā mṛgasya patarorivārabha udaśvinā ūhathuḥ śromatāya kam ||

What tree was that which stood fixed in surrounding sea to which the son of Tugra supplicating clung? Like twigs, of which some winged creature may take hold, ye, Asvins, bore him off safely to your renown.

तद्वां नरा नासत्यावनु ष्याद्यद्वां मानास उचथमवोचन्। अस्मादद्य सदसः सोम्यादा विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम्॥

tadvāṁ narā nāsatyāvanu ṣyādyadvāṁ mānāsa ucathamavocan | asmādadya sadasaḥ somyādā vidyāmeṣaṁ vṛjanaṁ jīradānum ||
