सूक्त २६

वसिष्वा हि मियेध्य वस्त्राण्यूर्जां पते। सेमं नो अध्वरं यज॥

vasiṣvā hi miyedhya vastrāṇyūrjāṁ pate | semaṁ no adhvaraṁ yaja ||

O WORTHY of oblation, Lord of prospering powers, assume thy robes, And offer this our sacrifice.

नि नो होता वरेण्यः सदा यविष्ठ मन्मभिः। अग्ने दिवित्मता वचः॥

ni no hotā vareṇyaḥ sadā yaviṣṭha manmabhiḥ | agne divitmatā vacaḥ ||

Sit ever to be chosen, as our Priest., most youthful, through our hymns, O Agni, through our heavenly word.

आ हि ष्मा सूनवे पितापिर्यजत्यापये। सखा सख्ये वरेण्यः॥

ā hi ṣmā sūnave pitāpiryajatyāpaye | sakhā sakhye vareṇyaḥ ||

For here a Father for his son, Kinsman for kinsman worshippeth, And Friend, choice-worthy, for his friend.

आ नो बर्ही रिशादसो वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा। सीदन्तु मनुषो यथा॥

ā no barhī riśādaso varuṇo mitro aryamā | sīdantu manuṣo yathā ||

Fiere let the foe-destroyers sit, Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman, Like men, upon our sacred grass.

पूर्व्य होतरस्य नो मन्दस्व सख्यस्य च। इमा उ षु श्रुधी गिरः॥

pūrvya hotarasya no mandasva sakhyasya ca | imā u ṣu śrudhī giraḥ ||

O ancient Herald, be thou glad in this our rite and fellowship: Hearken thou well to these our songs.

यच्चिद्धि शश्वता तना देवंदेवं यजामहे। त्वे इद्धूयते हविः॥

yacciddhi śaśvatā tanā devaṁdevaṁ yajāmahe | tve iddhūyate haviḥ ||

Whate'er in this perpetual course we sacrifice to God and God, That gift is offered up in thee

प्रियो नो अस्तु विश्पतिर्होता मन्द्रो वरेण्यः। प्रियाः स्वग्नयो वयम्॥

priyo no astu viśpatirhotā mandro vareṇyaḥ | priyāḥ svagnayo vayam ||

May he be our dear household Lord, Priest, pleasant and, choice-worthy may We, with bright fires, be dear to him.

स्वग्नयो हि वार्यं देवासो दधिरे च नः। स्वग्नयो मनामहे॥

svagnayo hi vāryaṁ devāso dadhire ca naḥ | svagnayo manāmahe ||

The Gods, adored with brilliant fires. have granted precious wealth to us So, with bright fires, we pray to thee.

अथा न उभयेषाममृत मर्त्यानाम्। मिथः सन्तु प्रशस्तयः॥

athā na ubhayeṣāmamṛta martyānām | mithaḥ santu praśastayaḥ ||

And, O Immortal One, so may the eulogies of mortal men Belong to us and thee alike.

विश्वेभिरग्ने अग्निभिरिमं यज्ञमिदं वचः। चनो धाः सहसो यहो॥

viśvebhiragne agnibhirimaṁ yajñamidaṁ vacaḥ | cano dhāḥ sahaso yaho ||

With all thy fires, O Agni, find pleasure in this our sacrifice, And this our speech, O Son of Strength.
